John Locke Early Life
John Locke was a Philosopher dating all the way back to the 16 and 17 hundreds. His father was a lawyer and a small land owner. He wanted his son to succeed in life so he put him into the Elite Westminster School.
The Beginning of John locke's Career
Between 1652 and 1667 John was a student and eventually lectured at the Christ church of Oxford. Then focused on the curriculum of logic. He extensively studied medicine and became an associate with Robert Hooke and Robert Boyle, who were leading Oxford Scientist.
The Earl of Shaftesbury
The Earl of Shaftesbury was a position were someone would make decisions. In 1666 John Locke made a friendship with Anthony Ashley Cooper, later Anthony became the first Earl of Shaftsebury. That year John Locke was appointed the physician of Shaftesbury. After a while John had to operate a liver operation to save his friends life.
The Next Years
For the next two decades Locke stayed in Shaftesbury he became the first leading minister to Charles ll. Shaftesbury in 1679 led the exclusion against the catholic Duke of York, or other wise known as the future James ll. When that failed Shaftesbury had to flee to Holland in 1682.
Locke Final Years in Government
During all the years of his service in Shaftesbury he had been writing. A lot of his work was published after his return to England. Locke essay Concerning Human understanding explained the theory of human knowledge. To John Locke knowledge was not the discovery on anything on the inside or outside of someone, but simply a whole bunch of facts brought together from the sensory experience. A few of his ideas are similar to the types of government we have today.
Karl Marx Early Life
Karl Marx was born in 1818 in Tier, Prussia. He was the oldest surviving child in his family of nine kids. His parents were both Jewish but his father (a lawyer) eventually turned into Lutheranism because of new laws not allowing Jews to be in the law. At the age of six Karl was baptized but later he became a atheist.
Karl Marx applied and studied at the University of Bonn for a year then got kicked out for being drunk and having a duel with another student. His parents then enrolled him in the University of Berlin which he studied law and philosophy. He then joined a group of people who studied religion, philosophy, ethics and politics.
Karl Marx Becomes a Revolutionary
After receiving a degree, Marx wrote for the liberal democratic newspaper, he became the papers editor in 1842. The Prussian government banned the paper saying it was too radical. Karl moved to Paris with his wife in 1843. There he met emigre Friedrich Engels, who became his life long friend and collaborator. They published many things together. The Prussian Government intervened and got him expelled from France. Then him and the Engels moved to Brussels, Belgium.
Karl Marx's Last Decades.
He eventually git expelled form Belgium and then moved to London were he could live the rest of his life. He worked there as a journalist but he was supported financially from Engels. Marx became incredibly isolated from London communists, and focused on economic theories. He expressed a desire to reveal the economic law of motion of modern society. He also laid out his theory of capitalism as a dynamic system that contained the seed of it sown destruction and subsequent triumph of communism. Marx would work on manuscripts for additional volumes, but they remained unfinished and only a few got published. He died on March 14, 1883.
