FOR LOVE OF MISSION

DUAL LANGUAGE

LANGUAGE OF THE DAY (LOD) CHALLENGE

You, as a witness, set a powerful example by being comfortable with being uncomfortable. We constantly push our students (or at least we should) out of their comfort zone, and fidelity to the LOD is a fantastic way to walk that walk. If nothing else, doing our best to adhere to the LOD will foster empathy for our students who are pushed to be comfortable being uncomfortable.

Kindly put, we have failed miserably in this regard. I am principally to blame for this failure (that pun is dedicated to Mr. Guerra).

During this time of Lent and Self-Discipline, let us recommit our fidelity to the LOD. What does this mean?

It means that we make our best effort to speak in Spanish on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays when we are in front of students in public areas, like the hallways, restrooms, Church, cafeteria, playground, etc.

This is not an optional part of our dual language model; it's a non-negotiable. Therefore, for those of you in the dual language grades, you must be extremely vigilant in speaking Spanish on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. It also means that we we speak English on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Great Scholarly Articles On Latinos And The Church

Please see the link below for an array of solid pieces on Latinos and our Church, specifically our Catholic Schools.

INSTRUCTION

I LOVE THIS TAKE...

because it's a bit counter-intuitive: we are usually focused on developing students' problem solving adeptness, but not their problem finding adeptness.

NUTS & BOLTS

OBSERVING ANOTHER TEACHER

Mr. Solis has not heard from any of you. Please let him know your plans this week. Let me know if you have any questions.

CANNED FOOD DRIVE

We are coordinating this with SVdP and Catholic Charities. Please encourage your class to bring in canned goods! Lent is a time of service, and we can witness our mission by having a great drive.

Please keep track of the amount of items your class brings in; we will need this information.

TUESDAY PLANNING

Several staff will spend a portion of tomorrow morning working on improving our dismissal/after school procedures and policies.

WEDNESDAY MEETING

This will be a PD courtesy of Mr. Jack Casey starting promptly at 7:15 in the Blue Room.

Corrected Mass Schedule

The ever-meticulous Mr. Guerra found an error in the mass schedule. There are two instances when it says September 23 and September 30, when it should say March 23 and March 30. My apologies.

This week, it's 8th grade.
