SMMS STAFF NOTES
WEEK OF 16 FEBRUARY 2016
FOR LOVE OF MISSION
LANGUAGE OF THE DAY (LOD) CHALLENGE
You, as a witness, set a powerful example by being comfortable with being uncomfortable. We constantly push our students (or at least we should) out of their comfort zone, and fidelity to the LOD is a fantastic way to walk that walk. If nothing else, doing our best to adhere to the LOD will foster empathy for our students who are pushed to be comfortable being uncomfortable.
Kindly put, we have failed miserably in this regard. I am principally to blame for this failure (that pun is dedicated to Mr. Guerra).
During this time of Lent and Self-Discipline, let us recommit our fidelity to the LOD. What does this mean?
It means that we make our best effort to speak in Spanish on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays when we are in front of students in public areas, like the hallways, restrooms, Church, cafeteria, playground, etc.
This is not an optional part of our dual language model; it's a non-negotiable. Therefore, for those of you in the dual language grades, you must be extremely vigilant in speaking Spanish on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. It also means that we we speak English on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
