SCC/General Motors Robotics Challenge
The Hardin Robotics Team, "The Deathly Hallows" took second place in their division on Friday, March 6th. There were over 32 area Middle School Teams competing.
Student teams used LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robotics kits and worked together to design, build and program a robot modeled after a real-life automated machine used in manufacturing at General Motors to perform a series of functions within a certain amount of time.
Students were judged on their teamwork and presentation, in addition to design and engineering. The judges were current and retired engineering professionals, from a variety of backgrounds. They offered expertise and words of encouragement to the students.
Students also attended breakout sessions throughout the day, where they were introduced to things like Rockwell Automation, vibration technology, animation and gaming, as well as how to make a plan for attending college. Held at St. Charles Community College every year in March, the GM Challenge is a major opportunity to educate local students on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs, while having fun at the same time.
