April Showers Bring May Flowers

Welcome to April! With the school year quickly coming to an end we have a busy schedule this month full of new and interesting subjects! As this year comes to a close we will be heading into the last month of the school year with full minds ready to explore all of the adventures of summer.

This Months Featured TEKS

TEKS are pieces of curriculum students must master before the end of the school year.

Emergent Literacy

III.B.6. Child can produce a word that rhymes with a given word.

This month our class will learn about rhyming words. You can help your child with their rhyming by sharing some of your own favorite rhymes with them. A rhyme we will be using in the classroom is the Humpty Dumpty poem. Your child will be able to identify the rhyming words in the poem Humpty Dumpty as well as in many other poems. Below are just a few examples of poems your child will hear throughout the month.

Reading Rocks!

This month our classroom library will feature books about the current season, Spring.

Below are some suggestions of books you can read at home with your child that will go along with the lessons we are learning in class.

Math Matters!

This month in our class will be learning to distinguish the difference between quarters, dimes, nickles, and pennies. A great way to help your child through this process is to use real money at home to review the differences between the coins.

Sensational Social Studies!

This month in social studies we will be studying America's patriots. April 21 is National Patriots Day, as a class we will be celebrating this day by dressing up as an American patriot and parading up and down the hallways. All parents are invited to watch our parade that will begin at 9:45.

Come Volunteer in Ms. Perez's Classroom this month!

This month our class would love to have a classroom volunteer every Tuesday and Thursday for our reading hour. An option for family members who would love to help out with the classroom, but cannot make it into the room is our take home volunteer projects. If you are interested in either one of these volunteer opportunities please email Ms. Perez to sign up!
