California School Parent Survey, 2020-2021
Your school appreciates your participation in this short online survey. This survey is an opportunity to communicate your perceptions about your child’s school. This letter explains the survey and, at the bottom, provides your URL and access instructions. If you have any questions about this survey, contact Cindy Hicks -858-521-2830 or chicks@powayusd.com.
The purpose of this survey is to obtain parent perceptions about the school.

· All questions apply to Park Village Elementary only.
· The results are for the use of your district. The California Department of Education and WestEd will preserve data confidentiality and refer any data requests to the district.

Park Village Catching Waves Awards
The Catching Waves awards are given to individuals who have gone above and beyond to make Park Village a great community. Park Village would like to recognize the following community members:
The Rock Hopper Award: This award recognizes those “rocks” who have been quietly serving the school through consistent and capable support.
Malhar Kale shows up for our community rain or shine and has volunteered at numerous D.A.D.S. events throughout his six years at PV. Malhar is always willing to lend a hand to make Park Village the best it can be!
The Penguin Village Award: This award recognizes the community members that have gone above and beyond in helping to strengthen the PV Community relationship.
Steve Ball has given our Park Village community many hours over the years. As leader of the D.A.D.S. his positive “can-do” attitude is infectious. Through the D.A.D.S. events and the many campus beautification projects, Steve continues to try and connect our families to each other.
The Huddle-Up Award: This award is given to a group of individuals who have come together to make a significant contribution to our PV Community.
Joy Turnage, Laurie Minark, Kim Bell, Ghada Abdou, Cu Vuc, Bobbi Champine, Lynn Mallari, and Cheryl Fernandez have all stepped up in a HUGE way to help our teachers both virtual and on-campus navigate this year of constant changes. The community of Park Village is so lucky to have a group of dedicated, kind, and caring individuals that are willing to step up and make things happen!
The True Blue Penguin Award: This award recognizes volunteers who, when cut, bleed PV Blue. They are stalwarts who have helped make our school the outstanding school it is today.
Loralee Daines works tirelessly at any task she is presented. She has had her hand in Meet the Masters, Family Game Night, Staff Appreciation events, and many more. Loralee helps make PV a terrific place and goes above and beyond to ensure our community has what it needs!
Kari Marshall is constantly finding ways to help out at Park Village. She is an amazing asset to our community and her contagious positive outlook brings smiles to everyone who is lucky enough to cross her path.
The Dive In Award: This award symbolizes the big splash individuals can make when they jump in to go above and beyond what is asked to help.
Joyce Wang volunteered her time this year to help make Park Village’s first virtual Science Fair a huge success. Joyce was ready and willing to do anything to ensure the success of this event.
Tim Dougherty had a vision for the Science Fair and brought it to life. Tim showed up eager to plan an event that would be an opportunity for our PV Community to connect. Not only did this event support our community but also created opportunities for families to explore the wonderful exciting world of science together.

PV HUGS community message wall
Introducing our PV HUGS community message wall! Look in the ESS parking lot for our HUGS message wall where families can safely come and tie on a ribbon with a positive message to our PV school community. We all are in need of Hope, Unity, Gratitude, and Strength right now, and that's exactly what our PV H.U.G.S. message wall represents!
Please practice all safety precautions such as wearing masks and social distancing when coming to place a massage or read a message. Ribbons will be sent home with your child or at your next materials pick up. Students and their families can write positive words to share with their community and then tie ribbons on the fence. Thank you to our wonderful DADS group for help on the sign installation and to the PTA and No Place For Hate Student Committee for making this happen!"
Celebrate with a “Birthday Book” Donation to the Library
The school library’s Birthday Book donation program is an opportunity to celebrate your child’s birthday (or another milestone occasion) by choosing a book for the library's collection. Your gift will benefit PVES students for years to come!
After the donated book arrives at the library, a special bookplate with your child's name and birthday age will be placed inside the front cover. I will also reserve the book so your child can be the first student to check it out from the library (unless they choose not to).
This program is completely optional, but new books are greatly appreciated by the students, teachers, and me! Thank you very much! -- Mrs. Fleming, Librarian
How the Birthday Book Club works:
1) Choose a book from the Park Village ES Library Wish List on Amazon any time. There are a wide variety of preselected books to choose from. You can ship the books directly to the library.
2) Complete the Birthday Book Donation form online so I know what to expect.
3) When the book is ready for check-out, your child can be the first one to borrow it.
After the book is returned, it becomes part of the library collection for other students to enjoy.
Thank you for supporting reading and learning at Park Village!
No Place For Hate
We are excited to share with you that Park Village was officially designated as a No Place For Hate school again this year! As a reminder, The “No Place For Hate” program was created by the national Anti Defamation League (ADL) organization and was developed to organize schools to work together and develop projects that enhance the appreciation of diversity and foster harmony amongst diverse groups. The campaign empowers schools to promote respect for individual and group differences while challenging prejudice and bigotry. Each year we will start by having all staff and students take the No Place For Hate Pledge seen here.
I PROMISE to do my best to treat everyone fairly.
I PROMISE to do my best to be kind to everyone -even if they are not like me.
IF I SEE someone being hurt or bullied, I will tell a teacher
EVERYONE should be able to feel safe and happy in school.
I WANT OUR SCHOOL to be No Place For Hate.
I PROMISE to abide by and uphold the No Place For Hate Pledge.
We will also be implementing three school wide activities throughout the year. The goal of these activities are to continue to find ways of building a more inclusive and respectful campus and to empower students to take a stand against hate and bullying. In addition to school wide activities, we have created a “Virtual Inclusion Lounge” for parents and students to access throughout the year. We hope students and parents will explore these resources together to have discussions around the topics of diversity, tolerance, and acceptance. Click here to access the “Virtual Inclusion Lounge” If you want to learn more about the No Place for Hate program in San Diego visit. https://sandiego.adl.org/no-place-for-hate. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Your “No Place For Hate” Team Members

SCANNING:
- The new method of submitting Box Tops is to scan your receipt via a downloadable app. The new style Box Tops will say "SCAN" and may only be submitted this way.

We will be having competitions as the year goes on. Here's how to start:
