St. Mary's Movie Night

St. Mary's Movie Night is only two days away! Please join us on Saturday night for a fun and free night at the movies, right here at St. Mary's. A company from Kansas City is setting up for the event, including a 20' x 21' screen, so everyone will have a great view! The movie will begin at dusk (around 7:45 - 8:00 p.m.). Families can spread out on our grassy area behind the school with lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy a fun night with our school community. Popcorn will be "on the house" for all to enjoy and 5th grade will be selling glow necklaces and movie snacks to support their annual 5th Grade Trip in May. We will be showing UP, a wonderful movie about love, adventure, and making dreams come true. This is a new annual event for our school and a special treat from the Lown Family, we hope your family can join us!

Shot Records and Other Important Items

We are still needing copies of birth certificates and current shot records for many of our students! The office must have these items by the end of September to be compliant with DESE requirements AND to finish your child's enrollment for the school year. There are several ways to get us this important information. You may have your child's physician fax us the information (417-553-7887), email us scanned copies of the items, or bring the items into the school office for us to make copies. Please give the school office a call if you have any questions, 623-1465.

St. Mary's Box of Joy Project

St. Mary's School is partnering with St. Mary's Parish to bring joy to children through the Box of Joy Service Project. The Box of Joy ministry is an annual Christmas gift ministry organized by local Catholic schools, parishes, and groups across the United States and facilitated by Cross Catholic Outreach.

During the month of October St. Mary's School and Parish will be collecting items that can be included in Boxes of Joy to send to countries in Latin America. By packing Boxes of Joy with small toys, simple art supplies, and other gifts, our students and families will bless children suffering from extreme poverty. These simple gifts help bring the joy of Christmas and plant seeds of hope through the Gospel.

More information will be included in your family's Communicator Envelope next Friday, September 24. I wanted to share this exciting project with families this weekend before information is sent home next Friday to give your family an opportunity to visit about Acts of Love, Charity, and Mercy.

Virtus Training Dates

Sister Joan will be hosting two VIRTUS training sessions at St. Mary's starting next week. The first training is scheduled on Tuesday, September 21 from 3:00 - 5:30 p.m. After School Care will be provided free of charge this day for any parents attending the training. Thursday, September 29 is the second training from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m., both sessions being held in St. Mary's Parish Hall. As a reminder, VIRTUS training is required for all school volunteers. Online training is also still available at www.virtusonline.org. Please call the school office if you have any questions or need help getting registered. St. Mary's is a part of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese, which you will need to select from the pull-down option when starting the online registration process. As a reminder, Virtus training time counts as volunteer hours AND allows you to be an active part of your child's school experience. It's a win-win!
