AIR Test Information

I am writing to provide information about upcoming AIR Testing. Recently, the federal government announced that they will not be offering schools waivers for testing. In response, Ohio will be conducting AIR Testing this spring. Ohio has determined that schools, teachers, and students will not be held accountable for test results. Ohio has also informed schools that all AIR Testing needs to be conducted in person.

Below, you will find three pieces of information:

  1. A form where you will make a commitment to bring your child to Greene for all testing sessions or to inform us your child will not take the AIR test. If you have already indicated to the school that your child will not be testing there is no need to complete the form.

  2. A letter from the district about testing.

  3. Dates and times of testing at Greene.

Please understand that if you would like your child to test, you will need to bring them to the building for ALL testing sessions. The district will not provide transportation for testing.

Transition Information for Rising 6th Graders

We will use this section of the newsletter to provide updates on transition for our Rising 6th Graders (current 5th graders).

Advanced Art

Advanced Art is a program for visual arts students who demonstrate an extraordinary interest in the development of their skill and creativity. The class is designed for artistically talented students who strive for more depth of knowledge and have a willingness to be challenged.

Our art teachers will be reviewing responses to determine who should be placed in Advanced Art. They will use the criteria on the form for placement. Please note that the responses will drive the placement process. However, as the number of spots in the class fill, we will use a lottery system to determine who will get in the course. All students who are selected for Advanced Art will be scheduled in it and will drop Multimedia Explorations. The art teachers will use the email listed on the form to communicate the result of your child’s placement.

May 3, 2021, I will share the form you can complete if you want your child to be considered for Advanced Art. If you have questions about Advanced Art, please contact Amy Combs, art teacher,

Class Placement Information

We are excited to welcome your child back to the Greene School for 6th grade. It is our intention to open school next year as normal as possible. This means we will go back to 16 homerooms for 6th graders. The homerooms will once again be grouped into four teams that consist of one teacher from each core subject (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies).

We will once again place your child in a homeroom with one friend. On March 22nd, I will email you a Student Information Form. This is an opportunity for you to provide us with the names of at least six preferred peers as well as other important information about your child. This means your child will be in homeroom, lunch, and recess with the preferred peer. They may also have some classes with them. You will learn your child’s homeroom teacher and team this summer. We will email the primary contact placement information. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept requests for teachers or teams.

If you have not already completed the form, click HERE (please note this form is ONLY for Rising 6th graders).

Information about Music Classes for 21-22

We plan on allowing students to take two music classes again next year. During the week of May 3, the music teachers will be visiting all classes to discuss the ability to take two music classes with students. They will collect information from students that we will use for scheduling purposes. The music teachers will then send a confirmation to the parents of any student who is requesting a change. Below is the contact information for our music teachers. Please reach out to them with any questions you have.

Mr. Tim Graulty (Band)

Mrs. Kristin Anderson (General Music)

Mr. Tanner Otto (Orchestra)

Mr. Joe Dilley (Choir)

Transition back to the Greene School

We realize the students in a Virtual Classroom have not been in a physical school building for a long time. As a part of our transition plan there will be two opportunities for students to get acclimated before the start of school (21-22). We are opening up our Greene 101 program to Rising 6th Grade students from the virtual classrooms. We will also host open tours in the summer. Students will be able to come to Greene for a tour guided by the administration. Additional information on both of these opportunities will be shared at a later date.

Transition to the Junior High

We will keep this section in the newsletter for the next few months. The purpose is to communicate information with 6th grade families about the transition to Sycamore Junior High. If you have specific questions you can reach out to Assistant Principal Clayton Lavercombe ( or Counselor Ben Brenner (

For Rising 7th Grade Parents/Guardians/Students:

Notes from Nurse D.

Spring is finally here! As you are going through clothing your child doesn't want or has outgrown, please remember, we are always in need of pants and shorts in the clinic. Elasticized waistbands only, no jeans. We are in most need of girl’s legging/pants sizes 10-12 and 14-16. Thank you very much!

Attention: Parents of 6th Grade Students

Two immunizations are required by the state of Ohio (ORC 3313.67) before the start of 7th grade. Tdap (tetanus, diptheria, and pertussis booster) and Meningitis (MCV4). Your child may already have had them at their 11 year old check up. If so please obtain a copy of those immunizations. If not, please make an appointment for your students to get these two immunizations. Once you have obtained copies of TDAP and MCV4, send them to Laurie Dobrowolski RN at E.H. Abinav Dinesh places 1st in Queen City Chess Classic - 2021

Abinav Dinesh won first place at the Queen City Chess classic. Queen City Chess Classic is a national chess tournament and is considered the strongest scholastic chess tournament organized in Cincinnati. Typically, every year in March, hundreds of kids from multiple states play in this tournament at Paul Brown Stadium. This year, the tournament was played online because of the pandemic.

Abinav played in the K-12 (Kindergarten to Grade 12) Open category which is the strongest chess category in this tournament and the most difficult section to win. He had played in this tournament from age 5 and in this strongest section category for the past 3 years trying to win it. He was close two years ago when he got second place. He was in grade 4 at that time.

Here is the Grandmaster commentary video for some of Abinav’s games from the queen city classic chess tournament.
