A Message from the Principal
A Message from the Principal
Happy Advent Season! It is such a wonderful time of year to intentionally see so much goodness around us as we prepare for the Christmas season and celebrate the birth of Jesus.
We have definitely been blessed with many good tidings. I am thrilled to share with you that we have recently been given exceptional news from the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops Education Department (TCCB-ED). They have moved our rating from 'Accredited Advised' to 'ACCREDITED' which is a huge blessing for our school. We received our report 6 months ago and immediately began making improvements in the areas noted as 'needs improvement'. Our action plan included timelines until 2022. We will continue to address all the areas noted as we rejoice in our new 'rating' from TCCB-ED.
We are now part of the Mayor's Fitness Council through a special opportunity from the Archdiocese. The grant cycle will run through 2020 so we be sharing updates very soon. The Archdiocese also received another grant we are participating in from the UT Health Science Center on Sexual Risk Avoidance. We are excited that we were selected to participate in these grants.
We recently inducted many new students in our National English Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society (see pictures below). These students will serve as great mentors and tutors for their peers. We had a very FIRST EVER 'Student Trip' to Washington DC with 20 students and it was a great success. We are very grateful to all the students and our wonderful trip advisors, Mrs. Kizzart and Mr. Stringer (see picture below). We have bowling, basketball and soccer seasons in full gear so come out out and share some Yellow Jacket Spirit.
We have also been very busy planning our 2019 Gala that will be held on February 16, 2019. Our theme will be 'Celebrating 115 years'. We are looking for alumni from each decade from the 1950s through today to have a special video highlight presented at the gala. If you know any alumni who would be interested in participating, please have them contact Mrs. Ariana Uribe (arvega@uiwtx.edu or 210-805-3606). In addition, we are hoping to have our 1st Alumni Yellow Jacket Newsletter/Magazine in publication by Summer 2019 so we want to have an updated alumni directory.
Congratulations to Mr. Abraham Callahan, alumni and history teacher! KABB Fox News surprised him earlier this month as the nominated teacher for 'Tacos for Teachers' Award. He graciously received 50 tacos and shared them with our staff.
We have a lot in store for 2019 with Robotics heading to another big competition, PSAT Parent Night, National Honor Society Induction Ceremony, our school will be hosting a CAAC Competition on March 2, 2019, Strategic Planning Retreat Mass with the Archbishop, UIW Yellow Jacket Night at Basketball games and much more is being planned.
As of today, we have had 55 8th graders come shadow at our school and over 25 applications already submitted for the 2019-2020 school year. We are beyond blessed to have many excited new families that are coming our way next year. We know our good, good Father is working for those who are committed to Him and WE ARE!
Dear Loving Jesus- Thank you for the bountiful blessings that come our way each day. We know they are each from You! You give us so much each day. Help us to live our lives as a reflection of who You are in each of us. Help us to find the good in our world, in each other, in our homes, in our work and strive to be holy this Christmas season as our present to You. May you bless each child, teacher, staff, parent, alumni, supporter, UIW, the Archdiocese and everyone else who is building Your school with us every day! In Jesus Name, Amen!
May each of you have a most blessed, peaceful and Merry Christmas!
Dr. Kristina Vidaurri
