Believe...Growth Mindset for Student Success!
Our School Vision
Knight Vision: To share in the commitment of rigorous and high quality instruction to meet the needs of every child.
Our 2017-2018 school theme “Believe...Growth Mindset for Student Success!” is directly aligned with our continued vision and instructional expectations for Knight: to share in the commitment of rigorous and high quality instruction to meet the needs of every child.
Instructional Focus:
*Implement the AKS (Common Mini-Lessons and Assessments)
*Implement Authentic Literacy
*Implement Effective Instruction (Workshop Model/Gradual Release)
Knight Mission: To provide a positive, stimulating, and secure environment that empowers the individual to grow socially, emotionally and intellectually in order to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
Knight Belief: We believe all kids can learn…
…and we will establish high standards of learning that we expect all students to achieve. It is our job to create an environment in our classrooms that engages students in academic work that results in a high level of achievement. We are confident that with our support and help, students can master challenging curricula, and we expect them to do so. We are prepared to work collaboratively with colleagues, students and parents to achieve this shared educational purpose (DuFour, 1997a).

SAM (School Administrator Manager) Data Collections
Our school will continue to participate in a national study concerning principal use of time. As a principal, I try to make instructional work my priority but management duties often get in the way. A data collector will be shadowing me for three days this week (Monday, Tuesday, and Friday). Every five minutes my "shadow" will take data on what I am doing. The data collector can't talk to me, or anyone else. The data collector will carry a clipboard with a stop watch and will try to be as "invisible" as possible and not disrupt our work.
I will receive the results of the data collection ten days later and will work with my SAM to increase the percentage of time I spend on instruction.
Please make every effort to interact with me as you do every other day.
Thank you for your help.

Gallup Q12 Employee Engagement Survey
What: SY 2017-18 Administration of the Gallup Q12 Employee Engagement Survey
When: October 16 - October 30, 2017
Who: ALL Certified and Classified GCPS Employees
Where: Employees’ preferred location on portal-accessible device of their choice
Why: A highly engaged staff means the difference between a school/department that thrives and one that struggles. When employees are engaged, they are passionate, creative, and entrepreneurial, and their enthusiasm fuels growth. These employees are emotionally connected to the mission and purpose of their work. When employees are not engaged, they are indifferent toward their jobs -- or worse, they actively work to disengage others.
UNITED WAY STUDENT FUNDRAISER- PJ Day
Tuesday, October 31 will be United Way Pajama Day at Knight Elementary School (no costumes, please). Students may donate a dollar to United Way and wear their pajamas to school. All pajamas worn must be school appropriate.

Awesome Professional Learning Opportunity for Parkview Cluster Teachers!
Steve Spangler will be coming to Trickum Middle School on November 11 to host a FREE staff development for our cluster K-8 teachers!
Jessie Kelly, STEM Coordinator at Trickim MS, is the winner of the Citgo Fueling Education Program's Grand Prize, which consists of school supplies for Trickum and a fun Hands-on Science Boot Camp with Steve Spangler for 100 teachers! The workshop is valued at $22,000, and Parkview Cluster K-8 Teachers have first priority for registration, before it is opened up to other clusters.
The workshop is on Saturday November 11, from 8:45am-3:00pm with a break for lunch on your own.
This workshop is designed as an engaging experience focused on building, inquiring and connecting experiences that ignite wonder. Steve Spangler's goal is to use hands-on skills with the existing curriculum and apply techniques that get students to wonder, discover, and explore. This is not a sit-and-get, or read-the-PowerPoint experience. This is an engaging, fun staff development where you will engage and get to take supplies back to your classroom!

PBIS Thoughts
We are so excited about our PBIS Care Awards! For the next few weeks, we will tell you all about how your class can earn the awards. Today, we are featuring the Golden Shoe!
Where do I earn it? In the hallway
Who decides who earns it? Our wonderful administrators
How do I earn it? By staying quiet in the hallway, stairs and bathroom - level 0 voices and quiet feet
***Remember that classes are testing - walk quietly down the stairs, especially near testing locations.
Thank you for supporting PBIS by working hard to earn the Golden Shoe!
