COVID-19 Safety Protocols
Screening at home
Parents will screen their children at home for fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea.
Consult a medical professional if symptomatic as necessary.
Students do not report to school if symptomatic
First two Days of School
Kindergarten will not start until 9:00 the first two days of school. Look for separate communication from us about what this will look like. The first day for Kindergarten to arrive at the regular time is Thursday, August 19th.
1st and 2nd-grade students should be dropped off at the main entrance.
3rd and 4th-grade students should be dropped off at door 14. This is the door that Elkhorn Kids Campus uses and is closest to the gym and cafeteria.
5th-grade students should be dropped off at door 10.
Due to social distancing guidelines and working within 3 feet of distance, we will not have crowds staying to take pictures on the first day.
Teachers and other staff members will be at each location to meet the kids and direct them to classrooms.
For K-5 the 1st bell rings at 8:10; the Tardy bell rings at 8:15.
Preschool students should arrive at 8:20 and meet the staff members at door number 2. It is ok to walk the preschoolers to the door.
Arrival after the first two days and Walking Club
Walking Club is an activity we offer to allow for a more spread out morning arrival time. Walking Club also gives the kids an opportunity to see friends, socialize and get some exercise before school each day.
It will begin on Thursday, August 19th. Children who arrive between 7:55 and 8:10 walk along an established path on our playground under adult supervision. When the weather is uncooperative we will hold walking club and other activities inside. When inside the kids will either walk in the gym, around the core interior of the building or they will take part in computer activities in the lab or on Chromebooks.
At 7:55 a.m. all kids will participate in walking club or another designated activity during inclement weather. If your children are not eating breakfast please do not drop them off earlier than 7:55. Outside supervision does not begin until 7:55.
All students will meet at the main entrance for walking club.
Adults will meet the kids at 7:55 to begin walking or to come inside during inclement weather.
If children do not want to do walking club they should arrive at 8:10.
Medical Authorization
Breakfast
A grab-and-go option will be available for kids after walking club ends at 8:10. The grab and go option is eaten in the classroom and will be finished by 8:30.
There is no charge for breakfast or lunch again this year.
Dismissal
Dismissal will return to a sense of normalcy this year. K-5 students will dismiss at 3:06.
Grade levels will exit in the following format:
PreK - exit door #2 at 11:30 and 3:30
Kindergarten - exit door #2
1st Grade - exit through the main entrance
2nd Grade - exit through the main entrance
3rd Grade - exit door #14
4th Grade - exit door #14
5th Grade - exit door #10
Adults that are in the pick-up lane will be asked to remain in their vehicle. Please pull all the way forward in line to maximize the number of vehicles that can be loaded in the pick-up lane. Parents and families that walk to pick up their child(ren) from school should maintain social distancing of 3 feet while on school grounds.
As always please inform your child's teacher of your dismissal plans. It is really important that we know where kids go and who they go with after school.
Expectations...Explorers are Safe, Respectful and Responsible
Arbor View Families,
We would like to review the school-wide Explorer Path that we will be using again this year at Arbor View. Our expectations at Arbor View are that all of our students are safe, responsible, and respectful in all areas of the building.
Each child will start their day on green, “Ready to Explore” each day. Throughout the day, children will be asked to move up or down on the path according to their actions. Children who move up on our Explorer Path will earn tickets to be entered into a classroom and monthly school-wide drawing. If a child makes improved choices after moving down, they will be given a chance to move back up.
At the end of the day, children will document their level on the path. How this is communicated will depend on a child’s grade level.
Outstanding (Purple)- This is reserved for extraordinary behavior, and will not be given out loosely. We want this to remain special; please don’t expect your child to reach this level daily. Children who reach this level will earn two tickets and will be nominated for a yard sign drawing.
Way to Go (Blue) –Children move to blue for making positive choices, trying their best, and showing good character. This is a good level to end the day on! Children who reach this level will earn one ticket.
Ready to Explore (Green)- Our expectation is that all Explorers will remain at green or above. This means they are being safe, responsible, and respectful.
Warning: Make a Better Choice (Orange)- Children move to this level as a reminder that they need to follow school-wide expectations.
Think About It (Pink)- Children who move to pink have continued to struggle with their choices. These students will fill out a Think Sheet to reflect on their actions. Any Think Sheets will need to be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to school the following day. Students at this level may also be referred to the office for severe or repetitive behaviors.
We look forward to a great year. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions.
Thank you in advance for all of your help this year!
Arbor View Staff
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Drop off and pick up procedures: - It is never too early to review the following! Please share this with anyone who might be dropping of or picking up children at Arbor View
If you are planning on dropping off and picking up children in vehicles please be mindful of the following procedures. A map is included below.
The drop-off lane runs directly in front of the school beginning at the southeast entrance ending in front of the preschool. A four-way stop at 205th and Saratoga will guide all traffic into the drop-off lane.
Pull as far forward as possible in the drop-off lane. There are signs along the sidewalk in front of the building designating it as a loading/unloading zone. If staff members are waving you forward please don’t take offense, we are trying to keep the line moving while keeping kids safe!
Children should exit cars anywhere along the curbside. Drivers should remain in cars during drop-off and pick-up. This will help to speed up the process. If children need assistance getting out of the car or to the car, there will be adults to help.
Drivers can exit the drive on 208th street.
The parking lot on the south side of the building can be used if you’d like to walk your child(ren) to the school.
There are four reserved parking spaces in the front of the building. These are designated as handicap spaces. Please do not use these without proper identification. Two of them are specifically designated for vans.
Students will exit the building at 3:06 in the following locations:
PreK - exit door #2 at 11:30 and 3:30
Kindergarten - exit door #2
1st Grade - exit through the main entrance
2nd Grade - exit through the main entrance
3rd Grade - exit door #14
4th Grade - exit door #14
5th Grade - exit door #10
Kids can be picked up anywhere along the drop-off and pick-up lane.
8. Older siblings are encouraged to walk to the front of the building, via the sidewalk, to wait with younger siblings for a ride, or to walk home. Please let the teachers know if this is the plan.
*All families are encouraged to get familiar with the drop-off and pick-up procedures. Driving through a couple of times is recommended prior to school as it will really help with the traffic flow during these times. As always student safety is our number one priority during these times. If a staff member asks for your assistance in moving forward in the line or if they have a suggestion for you please be kind and follow their lead. Please discuss these procedures with anyone else who may be dropping off or picking up children at Arbor View.
Preschool -
When transporting your child to and from school, we ask that you arrive no earlier than 8:15 a.m. for the morning class and 12:15 p.m. for the afternoon class. This is done to avoid congesting the flow of traffic. Staff will pick up students at the preschool door (#2) at 8:20 and 12:20 and will be dismissed from the preschool door at 11:30 and 3:30 each school day.
If you are receiving special education transportation services, Tanya Larsen, Administrative Assistant for Student Services, will be contacting you to let you know the exact times your child will be picked up or dropped off. Please inform her of the days, times and addresses. If your child is going to be absent and receives transportation services, please call Tanya at 289-2579 ext. 10204.
