Welcome To March!
Hello Knox Families!
Welcome to March!
WOW! We just complete our first i2 STEM Week at Knox. It was an amazing experience for our students and staff. Each day, students got to engage in the Design Process as teams, during multiple science and engineering projects.
Knox ELAC: English Learner Advisory Committee
Knox is starting an English learner advisory committee. The purpose of ELAC is to provide parents of English Learners opportunities to:
- Learn more about programs offered to their students
- Advise the principal and school staff on the most positive and effective actions to improve learning of English Learners
- Advise the school principal and staff on the development of the School Plan
- Review the Language Census each spring
- Send information to D.E.L.A.C. (District English Learner Advisory Committee)
If you are interested or would like additional information please contact Ms. Hueso-GarcÃa, our VP.
Promotion:
8th grade parents, this is a reminder that students must be passing all class in Power School on 6/2 at 4pm in order to participate in our Knox promotion ceremony. If you need your Power School Parent Portal log-in, please call Ms. Kristen in the office.
As a school, we continue to focus on improving school-wide attendance and reading success for all. It's extremely important that all absences be made up in Saturday School. When students are absent, they miss 6 class lessons. We are open every weekend from 8-12 for students to clear their missed days. It is also extremely important that students arrive on time to school each morning. Our first 30 minutes daily are spent on Achieve 3000, our school-wide reading program.
Students have been focused and engaged in class, making up absences in Saturday and Sunday School, taking advantage of the late bus on Monday and Tuesdays to attend tutoring, and morning Achieve reading lab. As we move into the last few weeks of the semester, please continue to support your student by having them check their Power School assignments regularly, make up all absences, make sure they arrive on time daily to participate in our morning Achieve 3000 reading time in Advisory, as well as reaching out to their teachers if needed. Our staff directory can be found here: https://www.sandiegounified.org/schools/knox/staff-directory
This month, our Bulldog Way theme is Responsibility. Each Advisory teacher will select the student who has demonstrated this characteristic. Students will get a brag tag and a reward. Please ask your student about their Brag Tags!
We continue to spend our mornings in Advisory reading. Students are logging into the program Achieve 3000, in order to promote our school-wide literacy focus.
Students can also read articles at home or in morning reading lab from 7:30-8:00 every morning at Knox.
Morning Achieve 3000 Reading Lab Schedule: 7:30-8:00am
Monday- Room 6
Tuesday-Room 3
Wednesday-Room S1
Thursday-Room 103
Friday-Room 206
Thank you to our parents that have been participating in our parent circles and workshops. We appreciate your partnership.
We encourage all students to read for 40 minutes a night independently. Students will be checking out independent reading books during library visits with their English class.
All Knox students will have nightly math homework as well as a Reading Log for English class. Homework is assigned from a math packet that is given to the students at the start of each chapter.
Thank you for your partnership and Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Principal Potter

Attendance Matters
The STAY curriculum focuses on truancy and attendance. The school-based instruction explores factors which contribute to truancy, and the resulting consequences of missing school. Topics range from goal-setting, coping skills, support system, self-evaluation, and both personal and environmental factors that contribute to truancy.
We will continue to provide incentives to students that clear all of their missed days, showing responsible attendance!
