YMCA AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
The Portage Township YMCA is offering a new after school program from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. that includes free meals and activities for students in grades kindergarten through 12! Dinner will be served from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a snack served from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Contact the YMCA at 762-9622 with any questions.
WILLOWCREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL BLOOD DRIVE
The Willowcreek Middle School Builders Club is hosting its annual Red Cross Blood Drive! Appointments are available for the February 27 drive, hosted from 4-7 p.m. at the Willowcreek Middle School All Purpose Room and Cafeteria. VOTE FOR ETHAN IN THE AUTO SHOW PSA CONTEST
Our student needs your help winning the Drive Safe Chicago Auto Show PSA Contest!
Senior Ethan Fragoso is a finalist in the competition and has the chance to win a scholarship valued up to $2,000, but he needs votes to win. Click on the link below to vote once per day for Ethan’s PSA, titled "Hammered," that warns others of the dangers of drunk driving. Voting closes February 16. The PSAs will be shown at the upcoming Chicago Auto Show.

Help PHS girls basketball player Kristen Cravens earn a spot in the 2020 American Family Insurance 3-Point Competition!

Middle school music visits elementary schools

Bands bring back gold from Solo & Ensemble
The Portage High School Band students competed in the Indiana State School Music Association Solo & Ensemble Contest this weekend, and our students had the #MidasTouch! Fegely views "The MLK Project"
Our seventh grade students at Fegely Middle School honored Black History Month by attending a performance of “The MLK Project: The Fight for Civil Rights” at Theatre at the Center in Munster! The performance highlighted the issues and people of the Civil Rights era as well as people and events that are making a difference in today’s society. Following the performance, the students asked the performers questions regarding acting, civil rights, and racism. Through this activity, the students gained an appreciation for the Civil Rights movement and learned how people are making progress today.
MCJROTC students create cards for Marines veteran
When a 104-year-old retired Marine Corps major asked for cards for Valentine’s Day, our MCJROTC students were ready to help! Last week, the students made Valentines to send to the World War II veteran, who fought in the battle of Iwo Jima. Central students develop Shark Tank proposals
The students in Mrs. Brown's class at Central Elementary went up against the Sharks! The students developed an idea for a product and presented it along with three reasons why people would want their product. This was a great way for the students to practice persuasive writing!
Academia Cup takes first place at Lowell competition
Portage High School's Academia Cup team brought back some hardware from their final competition of the season at Lowell High School! Simeon Bright and Logan Reese took 1st Place Team Overall, with team firsts in Essay, Interview, Science, Social Studies, 2nd in Literature, and 3rd in Speech.
Simeon also took 2nd place in Interview and 3rd place in Social Studies. Logan took 2nd Place Individual Overall, 1st place in Science and Social Studies, and 2nd place in Essay and Literature.
Congratulations to the team on their accomplishments!
Fegely Middle School hosts Career Day
Fegely Middle School students had the opportunity to explore future career paths at the school's Career Day event! Teachers throughout the building hosted speakers from a variety of career fields, and students could choose which sessions they wanted to attend. Speakers joined us from the military, steel mill, electrical field, mechanics, dental hygiene, social work, paralegal, law enforcement, and more! We would like to thank our speakers for volunteering their time to help our students develop an interest in a possible future career!
