Cooke's Corner
Triton Review and Preview 11.6.2017
Greetings
Team:
It sure was a week to remember! From championship week in sports to various celebrations, ELM showed its school pride! I wanted to especially thank Mr. Villegas with his work with the athletics program. We won three championships in Softball, Baseball and Girls Cross Country. I am proud of the coaches and students! Thank you to all of the teachers that dressed up for Halloween and participated in the Thriller dance. You rocked the choreography and dance Mrs. Leslie (I looked like MJ, but certainly did him no justice with the dance!). Andrea Arroyo did a fantastic job of teaching us how to look like zombies (she did a great job with my make-up!) Great work Andie Cooke, Lizveth Huerta, Andrea Arroyo and Cindy Velazquez and for the Dia de los Muertos experience. Great work John Academia with the students at the SWC half-time show. Thank you Mr. Ulle for leading out students in Game of Throws! I wish I could have been at all events! This staff is dedicated to our staff and community. I am so proud of the work that you do to make a difference in the lives of young people! Here is a quick preview of the week ahead:
1. It's not too late to fill out the customer service link! Your voice and opinion is important. SURVEY LINK
2. It's Veteran's Week. We are going to try to celebrate a family each day this week. We will also be handing out goodies to the families this Thursday. We might have an opportunity to purchase camouflage shirts this week. They will run about $15. We will have final confirmation on Monday.
3. If you are familiar with the story of Red Ribbon week, you will probably recognize the name Enrique Camarena. One of our feeder schools is named after this courageous individual. His son is available to speak to use this Monday (yes, tomorrow) during TSP. It's rare that he has speaking engagements open and he offered our school this opportunity. He is currently a judge and brings a powerful message about kids doing the right thing. If you are interesting in attending, you need to let us know this Monday morning. We will have about 400 seats available. We will have a lottery if we have more requests than seats available and let you know by second period.
4. We will have a Fire/Evacuation Drill on the 9th. Mr. Issa will have more information forthcoming.
5. I will be hosting a student senate this Thursday. On Wednesday, please notify your student senate representative to report to the library. We will have pizza and water that day. With your class, discuss any issues that your student senate wants to bring to the table. I will be exploring the topic of bullying and character development at our school.
