Our Character Strong Focus for February is KINDNESS!

This month we’re talking about the wonderful and sometimes oversimplified character trait of Kindness. The dictionary defines it as: “the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.” But it is so much more than that! The definition we are using for our lessons is:

Kindness: the choice to act with words, gifts, or actions to bring appreciation, positivity, and encouragement to others and yourself.

Celebrating Black History Month

This week is the start of Black History Month, the annual celebration of the achievements of African Americans and their essential role in the history of our country. While important throughout the year, February provides our students with a specific time to honor, celebrate, and learn more about the accomplishments and history of African Americans.

UES Celebrates RAK Week - February 14-18!

The UES will celebrate Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) week from Monday, February 14 through Friday, February 18. In addition to lessons and activities, we will celebrate each day with a special theme.

Monday - 2/14 - Wear Valentines' colors (Red, Pink, White)

Remember to be kind to your family. When we think of our loved ones we think of the warm kindness they show us each and every day. Please wear your red, pink or Valentine’s Day gear to remember how your heart feels when being kind to the family you love.

Tuesday - 2/15 - Wear your Superhero Gear!

Remember to be kind to yourself. You have all acted like superheroes the past two years! You have been resilient, worked hard, and adapted to any problems that came your way… just like a Superhero would. So for Tuesday, we want you to dress like a Superhero!

Wednesday - 2/16 - Wear UES T-Shirts and/or Black & Gold

Remember to be kind to your classmates. Show your school spirit and kindness to our school by wearing your black & yellow/gold or your UES gear!

Thursday - 2/17 - Favorite Activity, Club, or Sports Team Gear

Remember to be kind to your friends & community members. Students give at least 5 meaningful compliments today! “I like the way you . . .”. Since we are going to practice being a kind member of our community we want you to wear something to represent your favorite activity/club or sports team! When you are a part of a team you work together respectfully and kindly to reach a common goal!

Friday - 2/18 - Pajama Day - Donate $1 or a nonperishable food item...

Dream of kindness day! We all dream of a school full of kindness. So for Friday, donate $1 or a nonperishable food item and wear your pajamas. All donations will go towards our local food pantry.
