Principal's Post
Crooked Lake families,
We are starting another busy month this February. With I Love to Read activities, field trips, elegant lunch, and conferences we have a few things going on, and we love to see all of our families connecting and engaging with us in whatever ways your schedule will allow.
Thank you so much for coming out to Crooked Lake for our Showcase on January 26. It was wonderful to have so many families in the building for this community event. Also, a special thank you to our PTO, for supporting the event with the food in the cafeteria. Having Crooked Lake Creamery & Deli here was a special treat.
PTO will also be hosting a spirit night at Urban Air in Coon Rapids on February 7 from 4:00 - 8:00. Be sure to mention Crooked Lake.
You can sign up for a conference time today. Looking forward to having a great turnout on February 21, 23, 27, and partnering with you on your child's learning. The link goes live today February 3. https://www.myconferencetime.com/crookedlake/
We are focused on our new Character Strong word of the month, honesty. We define honesty as being truthful in what you say and do. Our students have really done a great job with the monthly focuses with Character Strong.
Lifetouch will be her for Picture day on March 1.
Order before picture day on mylifetouch.com School ID EVTPPWZK8
Take care.

Elegant Lunch on 2/14 - Pianist needed!
On Valentine's Day (February 14th), the students at Crooked Lake will have the opportunity to experience “fine dining” in the cafeteria at their lunchtime. This is a day to dress your best! We will set the mood: battery operated candles, placemats made from construction paper, and additional staff and volunteers to serve your children in the same way they might receive at a restaurant. We also will discuss what it might look and sound like in a “fancy” restaurant (volume, manners, etc.)
This is our 6th year doing this, and we are excited to continue this annual event. Most of all, we are just excited to continue to show your children how much they mean to us. Many thanks for all you do at home to help support us; you also hold a special spot in our hearts!
We are still looking for a pianist to play live music in the cafeteria during their lunch times from 11:00am-1:55pm on 2/14. Lunch periods are 25 minutes long with a 5-minute break between each shift. If you or someone you know may be interested in playing for even part of that time, please reach out to melissa.hayek@ahschools.us. Thanks!
Reedy's Report
Hello Crooked Lake,
We are right in the middle of the school year and the long Minnesota winter. These days can be especially difficult for some people as there is little light, we are couped up inside most of the day, and everything smells like damp snow gear. Please let me know if you or your child are feeling the effects of the winter grind and would like to talk to someone about it.
Getting outside in nature is an important part of staying mentally healthy in the winter. Even though the warmth of the couch and a big blanket can be very inviting, it's important to get outside and move in nature. This could be shoveling, skiing, or building a snow fort with the kids. If you or your kids are feeling the blues this February, start by suiting up and playing outside until you are exhausted. This will create great memories and could help you feel a lot better.
If your kids are anything like my kindergarten son, they have lost a lot of snow gear this year. Please let the school know if purchasing new snow gear is an issue. Through the generous support of donors, we can assist children in getting the gear they need.
Finally, if you are grappling with mental health issues, please tell someone or call 988. Someone will be there to talk to you and find you services. If it’s an emergency, please call 911.

Nurse's News
Just a reminder parents: the district and health services are now treating Co-vid like any other
respiratory illness. The district no longer requires negative tests, isolation days, and masks. As long as the student is fever free (no fever reducing medication on board), is not vomiting or having diarrhea, and they feel well enough to participate in class, they may come to school.
If your student comes to the health office with cold symptoms/cough and they do not have a fever 100 degrees or higher I will send them back to class. If your student tests positive for Strep Throat, they may return 12 hours after the start of antibiotics. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the health office at 763-506-2104. Stay safe, healthy, and happy.

All student meals must meet the federal guidelines for types and amounts of food offered. In addition, they must be appealing to students so they are consumed. A departmental advisory committee consisting of staff from elementary, middle and high schools and a department administrator, plus student focus and advisory groups all contribute to menu development and product choices. Menus are reviewed and adjusted periodically to reflect changing customer tastes and new products. Nutritional information for menu items can be found on the district website.
Parents and guardians of Anoka-Hennepin students can now access even more information online about their student's child nutrition account. To manage your account, click the lock and key icon, login and select the MyStudentInformation icon. Payments may also be made by sending a check directly to your child's school after the start of school. If sending a check to the school, please attach a note to the check "lunch money" or note it in the memo section of the check it their student ID. If you must send cash with your child to school for a payment please send it in an envelope with your child's name and student ID written on the outside. This will help ensure that the money you send will be deposited into the correct account.
Thanks!

Crooked Lake PTO
Thanks for showing your support at Showcase Night!
Each year during Showcase Night, PTO sets up shop in the cafeteria to sell dinner for CLS families to enjoy, and take a night off cooking, while they enjoy viewing their kiddos projects, art, and hobbies. PTO was able to keep 100% of the profit to give directly back to our school, helping fund classroom, teacher, and student needs. This year we were happy to invite Crooked Lake Creamery and Deli to sell ice cream. Their business is owned by current and former Crooked Lake families. You can find them open year round in the Andover Community Center.
Crooked Lake Spirit Night @ Urban Air Adventure Park Coon Rapids:
Join Crooked Lake families the night of Tuesday, February 7th, from 4-8 PM at Urban Air Adventure Park. Drop in anytime during those hours and mention Crooked Lake Elementary. 20% of ticket sales goes directly back to our school! TICKETS MUST BE PURCHASED IN PERSON AT THE DESK TO QUALIFY FOR SPIRIT NIGHT PROCEEDS, NOT ONLINE! Don't forget to wear your Crooked Lake Eagle gear so we can stand out from the crowd! Flyers to come home soon! The Event is posted on the CLS Parents Facebook page.

Attention Crooked Lake Families! There is an app called FirstView! This app enables families to get real-time information on regular bus routes - in the palm of your hand! Features include email, push, and text notifications of any route changes.
Simply download FirstView from your device's app store. On-screen directions walk first-time users through the easy set-up process. Choose Minnesota and then Anoka-Hennepin from the drop-down menus. After doing so, the app will direct you to A-HConnect. Log in with your parent/guardian username and password (if you've forgotten your parent/guardian username or password, please call 763-506-HELP), the app will then automatically populate your student's information.
