NEW Offering - Using Logic Models
for Authentic Program Evaluation and Planning (Cohort 3)
A Professional Learning Series for District, School, and Program Leaders and Teams
Why logic models?
Logic Models are also useful in:
- Engaging stakeholders in the design or evaluation of education programs
- Communicating the intent of the program and its rationale
- Reflecting group process and shared understanding
- Identifying and explaining the links between different program components
- Guiding program implementation
- Framing an evaluation of the process, outcomes, and impact
- Strengthening the case for investing in state, federal, or other programs
*NOTE - Jan. 26, 2020: See MDE's memo dated January 23, 2020* for details on changes related to the submission of the Program Evaluation Tool (PET) in ASSIST and the flexibility now offered to districts and schools.

What will participants learn and do?
NOTE - Jan. 26, 2020: The italicized portion of the description below was revised following MDE's recent memo on changes to the requirement for districts and schools to submit evidence of program evaluation to meet state and federal requirements. See MDE's memo dated January 23, 2020* for details.
Participants of this series will learn how logic models can be used to engage teams in an authentic program evaluation process that answers their own important questions and informs decisions about when and how to course correct. Over the four-day series, teams will create a visual map (logic model) showing how their programs are intended to work and then use their maps to guide the collection of evidence for program monitoring and evaluation. Through the lenses of their own programs, teams will deepen understanding of how to use both qualitative and quantitative sources of evidence to find patterns in their local data that inform decision-making and program planning. A review of federal and state expectations for program planning and evaluation will be provided, including the shifts under the Every Student Succeeds Act from a focus on compliance to performance. Time will be provided for teams to reflect on and record what they are learning from monitoring and evaluating their programs, as well as the decisions they are making for their 2020-21 improvement plans.
*Per MDE's memo, district and school teams will have the option of using either the PET in ASSIST or another process of their choosing (such as logic modeling) as evidence of implementing program evaluation.
Sample logic models, as well as tools and resources to support program design/evaluation, will also be shared.
