WATERFORD WEEKLY
Welcome Back to School Edition - July 12, 2017
Dear Staff,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 academic school year! I hope all of you had a restful and relaxing summer and are ready for a positively energetic school year!
My summer "staycation" allowed me to read ALOT and one of my favorite books over the summer was The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon. The book talked about positive energy and how "positive people, positive communication, positive interactions, and positive work and team cultures produce positive results." The positive energy that Jon is talking about refers "to the optimism, trust, enthusiasm, love, purpose, joy, passion, and spirit to live, work, and perform at a higher level; to build and lead successful teams; to overcome adversity in life and at work; to share contagious energy with employees, colleagues, and customers; and to bring out the best in others and in yourself."
Jon shares the ten (10) principles in his book through a story about George and his ride on the Energy Bus when his car breaks down. The following are his rules:
10 Rules for the Ride of Your Life:
1. You're the driver of your bus.
2. Desire, vision, and focus move your bus in the right direction.
3. Fuel your ride with positive energy.
4. Invite people on your bus and share your vision for the road ahead.
5. Don't waste your energy on those who don't get on your bus.
6. Post a sign that says No Energy Vampires Allowed on your bus.
7. Enthusiasm attracts more passengers and energizes them during the ride.
8. Love your passengers.
9. Drive with purpose.
10. Have fun and enjoy the ride.
We will be using these principles to "Fuel Our Success" on August 2nd and 3rd as well as throughout the school year, and as part of Cluster Cycle I.
Get ready to ride the Waterford Bus to Destination Success!
Staff Days: August 2nd and 3rd
Our first day back will be August 2nd at GHS. The general plan is to meet at the HS for a light breakfast and breakout sessions, convene for the general session, and conclude with information from GEA. The specific details and times will be forthcoming.
At the conclusion of the opening day information, we will meet in the Waterford Library at 11:45 a.m. for introduction of new staff and then move to the cafeteria for lunch, compliments of First United Methodist Church. After lunch, we will reconvene in the Library at 1:00 to begin our work on Realigning our Mission & Vision with Purpose & Commitment. We will be done by 3:15 and the rest of the time will be yours to finish preparing for the Meet and Greet that begins at 5:30.
On August 3rd, we will begin the day with breakfast in the cafeteria provided by First Baptist church. We will then move to the Library at 8:45 to begin our work for the day.
Attached are the schedules for the first two days. As you can see, we have a lot to cover and our work will be fast-paced and energetic!
Please let me know if you have any questions after reviewing the agendas.
To: A Cookout at Katrina's on Sat., July 29th from 4:30-8:30
You are invited to my house for a cookout to kick off our year, meet your new colleagues, and catch-up on "summer news" on Saturday, July 29th from 4:30-8:30. This is a family cookout so please bring your spouse, children, and/or significant others. Larry will be cooking brats and hotdogs and we will provide buns, condiments, drinks, paper products, silverware, etc. (If you would like something special grilled, just bring it along with you and Larry will be more than happy to cook it for you.) I am asking that you bring the following, based on the first letter of your last name:
A-J: Salads
K-Q: Main dish
R-Z: Desserts
Our address is: 53290 Beech Grove Drive in Bristol (About 2 miles south of the Toll Road off of Route 17. Easy to find if you put our address in "maps.") Please feel free to come for an hour or stay for the duration.
The only other thing that I ask that you bring is a portable chair, since we will not have enough chairs for everyone.
Any questions, please text or call. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 29th!
