Parkdale Elementary School News

June 2016

Message From the Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Community Members,

I can't believe we are here in June already and looking at the end of the year in a few weeks. Teachers and students are preparing for the end of the year and families are looking ahead to summer plans.

I have very much enjoyed my 2nd year at Parkdale Elementary School. I have found our small school to be a caring, supportive, and engaging place to learn for our children. I hope the year has gone well for you and your child(ren)as well.

I'm looking forward to celebrating the retirements of three of our beloved teachers. Ernie Delgado, Rosemary Valentine, and Staci Schmidt are all retiring this year. I'm excited for them and their next adventures.

We also have some of our staff moving on to new positions. Lydia Petersen, our wonderful music teacher, is moving to a full time position at Mid Valley Elementary School. Our highly regarded counselor Sue Jepson is moving to a full time position at May Street Elementary School. We wish them both the very best. Lastly, Ms. Sischo will be taking a year leave of absence to be with her family. She will be back after the 2016-17 school year.

All this news means some new faces next year! I'm very happy to announce that we have hired the following people:

1st Grade Teacher: Ariel Vaughn
2nd Grade Teacher (Temporary for 2016-17): Betty Nickerson
2nd/3rd Grade Teacher: Emily Barghigiani
PE Teacher: Brack Hassel
Counselor: Cristina Sanchez-Klein
Music Teacher: TBA

We have had many staff members involved in the hiring of our new additions. I'm looking forward to the opportunity for you to get to know them.

Additionally, we have a lot to look forward to in the year ahead. As you know, our school construction bond and operating levy passed. Thank you voters! Things are looking good with our general budget as well. These are some of the many things we have to look forward to in the next year:

* Additional PE instruction (every three days)
* Additional Music instruction (every three days)
* Additional Counselor Support (Cristina Sanchez-Klein will be for 20 hours per week, up from 12 hours this year)
* New Playground and Playshed
* New Bathroom Remodels and many other facility repairs

We have a lot to be thankful as we finish out the year and look ahead to 2016-17. I'm looking forward to seeing you over the next few weeks for our end of the year activities. Please see our list of events below.

Sincerely,

Mr. Hedberg

Lluvia is looking for A Summer Home

Dear Families,

Lluvia, our kindergarten classroom pet guinea pig is looking for a summer home. I will provide bedding and her dry food as well as directions for care. Please call or email me at your earliest convenience if you can care for her. In the past several families have shared the care over the summer, so that is another option if you will be away part of the summer.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Welland
