Next up is Unit 4, Frontiers of Flight! Student will look at first and second hand accounts of events. They will compare and contrast. These stories will be found in your Expeditions in Reading textbook. We will be launching our next writing focus at the end of this unit, informational writing.

Math
We are launching into our third Math unit. We are continuing to build upon multiplication. In this unit, we will focus on 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication.
The OLS structures lessons to start with the area model of multiplication, partial product multiplication, and then the standard algorithm. It is structured in the same order as our previous unit.
"Area model multiplication gives students another way to visualize a math equation, which is extremely valuable. Not all kids (or adults) think in the same way. When you give them more ways to approach a math problem, they're more likely to succeed. More importantly, the area model method helps students understand how math works. And as the equations they solve become more complicated, the purpose behind area models becomes much more clear." -Jill Staake from We Are Teachers
Our goal is to expose our students to multiple methods, so they can find the one that works best for them.
Encourage your student to master their Math facts! Practice a few minutes each day. Learning them now will save lots of frustration when we get to double digit multiplication and fractions.

OVCA is focused on providing a safe virtual learning environment. With this in mind, we ask that a legal guardian complete the below survey for each student enrolled with OVCA. The media release form includes two sections: Photograph, Testimonial and Interview Release, and Face to Face Platform (webcam) Usage School-Guardian-Student Compact. You will be given the choice to accept or decline each opportunity.
Together we can help students reach their full potential through personalized learning this year! Thank you for taking the time to complete this form.
