Cedar Reader
Cedar Park Middle School - December 14, 2016
From the desk of Dr. Anderson, Principal
I want to take some space and brag about the advancements we have made this year.
- We have created two new student leadership organizations.
- We have more AVID and MYP trained teachers on campus than in previous years.
- We have grown our after school program by 100%.
- We have more students involved in after school programs than before.
- We held the single largest fundraising campaign in school history.
- We have a new heating system that also includes air conditioning.
Next semester we will host a the annual family fun night, send each grade level on a fun field trip, forecast for the next school year, assess our learning using state tests, and plan the transition for students to enter Beaverton High and Sunset High. The spring semester will be busy, exciting and historic.
I hope you all have a wonderful winter break. I am proud to be part of the school's community, and I welcome any feedback or questions you may have. Please don't hesitate to contact me.
Regards,
Dr. Anderson
School and District Report Cards Available
School and district report cards for the 2015-16 school year are available at: http://www.ode.state.or.us/data/reportcard/reports.aspx. (Select Beaverton in the District Selection drop-down menu). I welcome the opportunity to share this information with you on the progress we are making to improve academic achievement for each student in the District. We are making progress.
State report cards began fifteen years ago when the 1999 Oregon Legislature passed a law requiring every public school and district to receive a report from the Oregon Department of Education about how they are performing overall. Given the recent passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and the expiration of Oregon's ESEA flexibility waiver on August 1, 2016, the State of Oregon will not assign an overall rating to schools for the 2015-16 school year. Our school ratings in the areas of student achievement and student growth on state assessments and graduation rates are available in our Report Card Rating Detail Sheet at the link above.
Cedar Park Middle School
At Cedar Park Middle School WE are committed to using this information to help tailor our school improvement plans and academic programs to meet the needs of every student. During the year we will communicate with you frequently about student achievement and programs in place at our school to foster student learning and success.
If you have questions about our report card, please contact the principal, Dr. Shannon Anderson. You may also have suggestions for improvements. Please share them!

What is AVID?
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a District wide system at the Middle and High School level that aims to prepare all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities. AVID impacts students throughout the school because teachers use AVID strategies to influence the academic and behavioral skills of their students in all content classes. While there is an AVID elective course for selected students, ALL students benefit because the methodologies, strategies, and expectations are schoolwide, impacting the learning environment and culture of the entire campus.
