A message from the Principal-Mrs. Bookman
To our Suffield Family,
Today we wrapped up the canned food drive and what an awesome event this has been! We were able to collect 1865 cans and $1265! All of this goes to support those in our community. The Randolph/Suffield Food Shelf & Suffield CARES helps those in our community to who have a need. If you are in need of food assistance, call 611 and you will be assisted! If you have a short-term emergency need such as a heating or electrical shut-off, Suffield CARES can help! You can contact me or Chief Rasnick at the Fire Station. We thank everyone who contributed to helping those in our small town!
Next week is a short week, as we are off school Thursday through Monday. We hope you are able to safely enjoy time with your family this Thanksgiving. If your child will be off school anytime this week for travel, be sure to complete a vacation form Vacation Form
Have a great weekend!

Ohioans between the ages of 12 and 25 who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccination have the chance to win one of 150 $10,000 scholarships and one of five $100,000 scholarships to an Ohio college or university for career or technical education. The entry period is open now. To learn more about this initiative or to submit an entry, visit ohiovax2school.com or call 1-833-4-ASK-ODH.

Birthday Treats-MUST be prepackaged, ONLY
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.

Counselor's Corner- A Note From Miss Livers
Coping with Emotions
While students are ultimately responsible for the choices they make, there are things that you can do as a parent or guardian to support your student as they work on self-regulation. One of the first steps for self-regulation is to consider what your child is communicating through his/her emotions. For example, anger can often be a manifestation of other feelings like disappointment, sadness, or frustration. By getting to the bottom of the anger, you will be able to better help your child work through it. Another important part of self-regulation is helping your child learn and work on coping strategies they can use to help with the anger they are feeling. The more you practice the coping skills with your student when they are not upset the easier it will be for them to use when they are. When you see your child using their coping skills, or at least attempting to, praise them! Let them know that their efforts have not gone unseen and that you are proud of the work they have done.
Below is a sample list of possible coping skills to help your child when they are upset.
Practicing deep breathing
Yoga
Exercise
Listening to music
Singing/dancing to a favorite song
Drawing/Coloring/Painting
Reading a book
Taking a walk/break
Using a favorite fidget
Mindfulness
Practicing positive self-talk
Developing and using coping skills takes time and patience. We can't expect children to use these strategies effectively right away. It will take them some time to determine what works and what doesn't. Additionally, they may find that some coping strategies are more useful than others. Continue to empower them to choose and use what works best for them.
