INTRAMURAL SPORTS MONDAYS AFTER SCHOOL
Intramurals will run from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. directly after school on Mondays.
Intramurals are after-school sports for Novi Meadows 5th and 6th graders. Students compete against each other in a sport. There are no established teams, but rather the teams are determined at each session. We stress fair play, good sportsmanship, and teamwork...while having fun learning and playing games with our friends. Students should have appropriate shoes in order to participate.
Please see the attached documents for our FAQ and schedule.

DASH & DINE
Don't Miss Dash & Dine, Wednesday, June 1st
This school community event expands Novi Meadows' 5K with a food truck after party. This event will happen on Wednesday, June 1st. The 5K will begin at 5:30pm and the food truck rally will follow.
Please visit the form below to register and gauge interest for the Novi Meadows 5K, optional boot camp practices led by Mr. Michalski, and food truck after party. This is an outdoor school-wide community event for us to run, cheer each other on, and celebrate the end of the year!
All Novi Meadows staff, students (including virtual 5th and 6th grade) and their families, including siblings and parents, are welcome to participate in the 5K and after party. Only Novi Meadows students may participate in the bootcamps.
Sponsors for Dash & Dine
We are looking for community business sponsors for our 5K event (sponsorships begin at $100). Sponsoring helps to off-set the costs of what the PTO will need to cover and helps us to raise funds for student and school enrichment. When corporate partners sponsor, we will include your logo (size based on sponsorship level) on the back of the 5K t-shirts, and we will list sponsors in our future communication, school flyers, and Facebook group regarding the event.
If you or your company are interested, please reach out to the PTO board at novimeadows.pto@gmail.com

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
Next week we will be celebrating Asian American Heritage Week. We will be highlighting the five most represented Asian cultures in the Novi Community School District (India, Japan, Korea, China, Vietnam). We will have special announcements each morning, some lunchtime activities, exploratory opportunities during A30/60, and even fun food to try in the cafeteria next week.
If you would like to get a jump start on our celebration of Asian culture you might want to check out the Hanami Spring Picnic at Novi’s Tollgate Farm this weekend. They’ll be celebrating the blossoming of the farm's ornamental cherry trees and Japanese culture! They’ll have music, kids activities, and picnicking in the Sakura Garden! The event runs from 11-3pm tomorrow.

WARM WEATHER PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Spring has sprung…or is this summer? With the significantly warmer weather, students and staff are noticing that some of us may need a reminder or an initial conversation about wearing deodorant. Teachers are broaching the topic by discussing general hygiene with students when necessary. Parents and guardians, please help reinforce this at home as well. If you are uncertain how to approach the topic with your child, this is a helpful article.

FIELD DAY!
Dear Parents,
We are looking forward to our end of the year field day event!!!!
Fifth grade will be participating from 8:15-10:15 and sixth grade will be participating from 12:10-2:10.
Feel free to come join the fun! We are taking volunteers to help run the games this year. If you are interested in helping, please complete the Google form below. The form will close once all of the spots are filled for each grade level. We will send out an email confirmation in a few weeks, so if you are able to access the form then you can plan on volunteering.
Volunteers will meet behind the 6th grade house on the large field. There are 20+ games this year and we will need one or two volunteers to help run each station. If you sign up, please plan on arriving around 15-20 minutes prior to the start of activities. It is also required that you complete the district background check form and submit to the main office before field day. The form for that can be found in the sign-up link.

KEEPING A FOCUS ON RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY AND A SENSE OF COMMUNITY
THIS WEEK'S VIP
We are trying to focus on the positive things our 6th grade students are doing here at Novi Meadows.
When we see students making responsible choices, doing the right thing, and giving back to their school and peers, we pass out a VIP ticket to share our appreciation.
All VIP tickets go in a weekly drawing for an opportunity to eat lunch in the VIP Cafe.
Once a week, a VIP winner is announced and that student’s entire lunch table gets to eat in the VIP Cafe for a day.
We hope our students are enjoying this as much as we are! We are so proud of these students and the positive impact they are making at Novi Meadows.
To the left is this weeks winner Declan H. Congratulations, Declan H!
DRESS CODE REMINDER
As the weather gets warmer, we anticipate a change in student attire. Staff will be addressing dress code violations with students as they arise. Please help us from home by reviewing the Dress Code expectations on the district website.
Students will be asked to remove, cover up or call home for a change of attire depending on the violation.

ABSENT HOMEWORK
Novi Meadows Parents:
When students are absent, teachers will do their best to fill them in on the work they miss. Teachers utilize a variety of tools to keep students up to date on work (Schoology, Google Classroom, on-line planners, etc.). It is not feasible to have absent students Zoom into classes that are happening at school. In addition, teachers are not able to privately Zoom with students who are absent to reteach the lessons. Teachers will provide the work that can be replicated to students upon their return. It is not always possible to recreate classroom discussion or activities
