Principal Fountain's Message To Families

Dear Families,

So much learning is happening at JBE!

  • Today I watched 4th-graders dissecting squid- our student scientists were very impressive.
  • Through great literature, 3rd-grade students are learning about the challenges that students face in accessing books and education around the world.
  • 5th graders are building their "close reading" skills through the novel Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan.
It is definitely an exciting time to be an engaged Egret!

The CCSD Board of Trustees will be hosting a series of engagement sessions around the county over the next two weeks to get feedback from all Charleston County residents in developing shared goals for students. Please consider attending the in-person session at Lucy Beckham High School on September 27 at 6pm, or share your feedback by completing this short survey.

Message from our JBE One President

Hello JBE Egrets!

How about some Come Back Shack this week?! Eddie the Egret was spreading the love and 25% of Sales came right back to our school - bravo Thanks to you for coming out and thanks to them for being so generous!!

Lots of chatter in our house this week about Field Trips! This will be the first field trip for my girls (bc of COVID!) and we are excited! HUGE shout out to JBE One for FUNDING THESE FIELD TRIPS! Which leads me to this week's "where does the money go?!” section below - make sure to check it out.

Give me a shout if you have questions or are not sure what's going on :)

With a JBE Smile,

Katie D. Edwards

JBE One Exec Team Spotlight

The JBE One Team is made up of 7 areas and today we'd like to highlight our Faculty Relations dynamic duo - Shannon Rice and Amelia Smith!

Amelia and Shannon are the ladies keeping our staff happy! They're behind staff appreciation week, room parents, and so much more. We are all so thankful for them!

They're currently working on:

- Finalizing Room Parents - just about wrapped up! Thanks to all who have stepped up!

- Organizing Monthly Lunches for the Teachers. We strive to provide lunch for our teachers monthly. Know any businesses that would like to sponsor? Or maybe your neighborhood that could team up to host one? If you have any interest, please email hello@jbeone.org

Thank you Shannon and Amelia for all you do at the school! You can also sign up to join their team using this link. Don't forget, you must pass the background check to volunteer at JBE.

We Love Our Volunteers!

There's a place for everyone to volunteer at JBE... Want to get involved in all the FUN!?

Don't forget, you must pass the background check to volunteer at JBE.

Please take a moment to either create an account OR update your information. This is where you can order uniforms and also our Fall Capital Campaign (a color run!) will take place. This is also how we connect you with your neighborhood captain. Email secretary@jbeone.org with any issues.

Attention 3rd-5th Grade Boys!! Basketball Clinic!

Basketball Party to Go - Friday Sept 30th - details in Flyer. $25/kid

Where does the JBE ONE (formerly PTO) $ go?

I'm sure many of you have been signing permission slips, turning in T-Shirt sizes and we want to give a huge thanks to YOU for funding these field trips! This is where the $ goes from our Auction and Capital Campaigns - right back to our kids. Field trips help them learn and experience different things in different ways. Yay!

Grief Support (Sand Dollar Club)

The pressures of school & life can weigh heavily on a grieving child and (the research shows) there is nothing more encouraging than being surrounded by other children who have experienced a loss, too. Sand Dollar Club is a peer support group that helps kids feel less alone in their grief. If you are interested in having your child participate in the after school program, please email Mrs. Bottomley at christina_bottomley@charleston.k12.sc.us

Backpack Buddies

Chronic food insecurity can present many adverse consequences for children, including impaired cognitive function, compromised ability to resist illness, and higher levels of aggression, hyperactivity, and anxiety.

JBE is proud to partner with the Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB) to assist in the Backpack Buddies program again this year. The mission of the program is to meet the needs of children at risk of hunger by providing them with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food to take home on weekends and school vacations when they do not have access to free and reduced-price school meals.

If you are interested in participating in this free program please contact Katie Clark -Perron at Katherine_perron@charleston.k12.sc.us

Our Capital Campaign this year is a Color Run!

We'll kick off with a Pep Rally on Oct 31st and wrap up with a color run on Nov 11. We need business sponsorships to help offset the costs of the run. Under 10 opportunities left so hurry over to our site and grab your advertising slot today! This is a wonderful way to support our school AND get your business in front of 800 plus Mt. P Families.
