James Madison was author of the first ten amendments because of this he was known as the father of the bill of rights. Madison faithfully believed in a system of checks and balances. He also helped form the idea of a republic. He thought checks an balances could help keep liberty in a large republic. He believed in a robust yet balanced federal government. Madison liked the idea of having a strong central government. He helped create the democratic republican party.
