Jonathan Alder Junior High
April 29, 2022
Message from the Principal
JAJHS Families,
Good afternoon! It’s hard to believe it’s time to turn the calendar to May!
We were excited this past week to see the continued success of JAJHS students at track meets, the Madison County Math Bee, and as students worked hard in their classes.
Around the building, we have now completed our Ohio State Tests and are moving into MAP testing. These assessments help our teachers understand strengths and gaps for each student and inform future instruction, even into the next school year.
Additionally, as the last several weeks of the school year approach, we are excited for the many special events and activities that are back on the schedule this school year.
Please be sure to review the newsletter below for important information.
Sincerely,
Ryan Malany
Principal
Jonathan Alder Junior High School

*Mrs. Lostumbo's, Mrs. Phillips' and Mrs. Garner's Math classes will be starting our Finance Project to finish up the year! Students will dive into a career and apply this career when calculating take home pay, forming a budget, selecting a car, picking an apartment or home, etc. We will be applying standards from the year throughout this project. We encourage you to talk to your student about what we are doing in class. This project aligns to the Ohio Financial Literacy Standards.
Also, the seventh grade math teachers would like to send a big thank you to parents for donating items for our first annual Math OST Olympics! "Students worked hard, competed, and celebrated accordingly. We are proud of their hard work!”
*Mrs. Danner's and Mrs. Kline's Language Arts classes are diving into the research component of our I-Searches. Please ask your student about his/her research question!
We are focusing our experience on how different people use different methods of self-expression. In a couple of weeks, we will share our learning in small groups in the classroom.
Students have chosen diverse groups of people and hope to find new and interesting methods of self-expression. Remember that we post our daily activities on Canvas.
*Mrs. Heinig's Language Arts classes are finishing up debates. The debates were a fun way for the kids to use their research and logic to debate real topics and develop authentic life skills.
We are moving this week into Historical Fiction reading. Each student has joined a book club to promote community, discuss topics that affected people in our past, and find ways to solve problems moving into the future.
As weather permits, we will be grabbing our beach towels and reading outside!
8th Grade
* In Mrs. Lostumbo's Algebra classes, students will be MAP testing the first week in May and they will have their final exam on Wednesday, 5/18 and Thursday, 5/19.
We are also starting our final project in May where students will work in groups to create a children's book involving a concept they've learned in math this year! More details to come.

Reminders from JAJHS Office
Medications at School
Sometimes parents ask that school personnel administer medication to their child during the school day. When this is necessary, we require written permission and instructions from the parent and in some instances from the doctor.
The required form “Distribution/Student Use of Medicines/Medications” must be completed and turned in to the junior high office with the medication to be administered.
School Fees
The school fees for 7th and 8th grade can be paid online using MyPaymentsPlus or you can bring cash or check to the school office. The fees are $30 per student for the 2021-2022 school year.
