FREE Vaccine Clinic Offered at School
Middle school is a time when students need an update on their required school vaccinations.
Routine child vaccines are an important tool for creating a healthy learning environment by preventing the spread of disease. Manitowoc County Health Department is partnering with your child’s school to offer free vaccinations on-site to students that need them. Manitowoc County Health Department will be at Washington on Thursday Sep 29, 2022.
Attached is a consent form for the vaccination clinic:
● MCHD will look up each student’s vaccination records in advance to ensure they receive the appropriate vaccines.
● You must indicate which vaccines you want your child to receive.
o If you are unsure of which vaccines your child needs and want them to receive all vaccines needed to be up-to-date, please select “I want my child to receive all recommended immunizations”. Only those vaccines needed will be administered.
● If your child receives immunizations within 72 hours of the immunization clinic it is your responsibility to notify the Manitowoc County Health Department.
Please reach out to the Health Department at (920) 683-4155 or your school nurse with any questions.
A VIDEO MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE
This video will review the new process for all middle and high school students on how to access the office/health room for NON-urgent health needs. The video is linked below.
The benefits are that students miss less classroom instruction time for health complaints that can be managed in the classroom or at home prior to or after school. This process helps students learn to plan ahead, make appointments and learn to explain their health concerns.
Again, this is only used for NON-urgent health needs.
Hello Washington Family and Welcome to the 2022-23 School Year!
As we start this new year, the Washington School Counseling team will like to inform our families on the services we can provide your student, you, and your family:
- Short-term counseling for your child during the student during the school year. Please know, short-term counseling does not offer any diagnosis or treatment plan, but serves more as a service of student support.
- Referral for School Based Mental Health Services, clinical treatment, with Holy Family Behavioral Health directly in our building.
- Academic support referrals for 504/Individualized Education Plans (IEP), often utilizes counselors, teachers, school psychologists, administration, student and family to find the best support that is needed for your student’s learning.
- Sometimes, the unexpected happens. As a department, we oversee resources to support our students and their families who may be misplaced without a home, to connect to resources in our community.
- Academic and Career Planning and much more.
You may contact any one of the School Counseling Members with questions and concerns:
Paige Cobbarubias, School Counseling Secretary, work hours 8am-12pm
Kelly Spiering, Recovery Room Teacher and Counseling Support
Rebecca Williams (formerly, Rebecca Giessen), School Counselor

We look forward to working with you and your student!

FREE Breakfast and Lunch Continues
MPSD is participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2022-23 school year. CEP allows us to serve a FREE breakfast and lunch meal to all students each school day regardless of F&R eligibility!
If a student chooses to take milk without taking a complete breakfast or lunch meal, ala carte milk charges will apply and the student's food service account will be charged for the milk.
*MPSD will still be requesting F&R applications from households with a student participating in the CEP; however, receipt of free breakfast and lunch meals does not depend on returning it. Completing the application is still necessary for other programs like waiving school fees and P-EBT and may be used to determine if your household is eligible for these additional benefits.
A new Free & Reduced application must be completed each year unless you received a letter from the district stating you are already approved. Applications are included in the Back to Basics mailing. If you need another one please contact the Manitowoc Public School District Administration Office at 686-4777. Applications can also be found on the MPSD district website under Services, Food Service, then Free & Reduced. You may also apply online in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal; Meal Benefits. Only one application needs to be filled out per household. Should you have any questions while completing the application, please contact Pam Kretsch at 686-4773.

Lakeshore Community Health Care’s School Dental Program is once again offering their services within Manitowoc County. Lakeshore Community Health Care offers dental services provided during the school day to families regardless of insurance or ability to pay. The School Dental program is not a free of charge program. We use the same process as in our clinic in that students with no insurance are eligible for a sliding discount based on the family size/income.
Our services range from oral hygiene instruction, routine exams and cleanings, x-rays, fillings, simple extractions, stainless steel crowns and baby root canals. Students are seen throughout the school day for an average appointment time of 45min. Our goal is to have each child seen for their cleaning, x-ray and exam. If they are in need of additional treatment, they will be asked to return until treatment is complete or until our scheduled visit has ended. The small inconvenience this creates comes with a great reward. Children are having treatment completed in a week span that would normally take months. Families are also no longer having to take time off of work or pull students out of school for appointments.
