Battle of Britain
"Never was so much owed by so many to so few"
The Battle of Britain was a battle between the English and the Germans. After France surrendered to the Germans, Germany started to focus all their attention towards Britain. This battle was a major turning point in World War II. This battle was an "Air-fought" that would be won by witch side would prove to be stronger.
The battle was fought between mid-July through October of 1940. Germany's plan was to outnumber the English air fighters and escort the bombers into the English channel. However Britain had a very good radar system and would aim to shoot down every German aircraft that showed up on their radar.
The Generals/Leaders During This Battle
Winston Churchill
Winston Churchill was the Prime Minister of Britain. However, Churchill was not in power when war was declared on Germany. He came into power after Neville Chamberlain was forced to resign. Like Hitler, Churchill had experienced war and had fought in wars.
Hugh Dowding
Hugh Dowding was a Commander in Chief RAF Fighter Command. Dowding also had a war background in the Air Force. He started off a flyer in the Royal Flying Corps, but then transferred to commanding Britain's fighters in the field.
Adolf Hitler
Hitler was the self-appointed president of Nazi, Germany. He had fought in WWI and suffered defeat. Hitler wanted to take over Europe, then eventually give Germany World power. He wanted the World to know Germany was powerful and he would do anything to show it.
Ending Results
This battle ended with Britain defeating Germany. This battle was a turning point in the war and showed that Britain was a powerful nation and that Germany could be defeated. If Germany would have won this battle, They would have took over Europe and went or their goal of global power.
