From the Principal...Steve Morrill

Beginning of the year observations...I attempt to spend my school days out and about in the building and classrooms as much as possible. Through the first week and a half of school, I absolutely love how this building “feels” and watching our eager learners navigate classroom activities and the building as a whole. With the construction walls finally down, this is a whole new (renovated) building to all of us. We are figuring the best routes to and from places and where our classes and peers are located during the day. Even as we work through student “traffic patterns,” the movement of middle schoolers through the building is relatively smooth and controlled. This is due, in large part, because of the fabulous kids and adults that we have here at Thompson. What a growth experience for all of us...students AND staff!

THOMPSON CLUBS

As you are aware from the morning announcements, many clubs are starting! These include Club Volleyball, Dungeons and Dragons, Thompson Types, HOPE Club, Builders Club, Drone Club, Business Club, Fishing Club, and T.S.A. (Technology Student Association). Yearbook started this week, Student Council applications are due on September 6th, and the Fellowship of Christian Students is seeking student leaders.

Click here to view descriptions and meeting times of our clubs. And students should listen to the morning announcements as even more clubs will be starting! Please encourage your child to attend one of these club meetings! If it is not a good fit, try another one!

The after school activity bus which runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays will be starting on Tuesday, August 27th. See below for more information.

Enjoy your weekend!

Please join us for the Fox Mill 5K & 1-Mile Color Run/Walk on September 7, 2019 honoring Thompson graduate Kayla Lehmann. Kayla, who passed away on April 7, 2018, was a St. Charles East freshman who was passionate about music while also being an avid reader and gifted writer.

Proceeds from this year's race will benefit Kayla's Hope (www.kaylashope.org), a foundation that seeks to take away the stigma of depression and mental illness so that no one has to suffer in silence. For more information, to register, or to make a donation, please visit www.foxmill5k.com.

Help out a local cause!

Consider donating items to a recently graduated North Star as she works to complete her Girl Scout Gold Award! Brigid Millette is seeking donations of items to include in "stress-relief kits" that will be donated to schools in D303 in order to give students an opportunity to de-stress and work on healthy coping mechanisms.

New or gently used items are greatly appreciated. Donation boxes are located near the front entrances of North High School, East High School, and Thompson Middle School, and donations will be accepted through the end of August.

See the flyer included below for a list of items! THANK YOU!!!
