Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District
November 17, 2017
A message from the Superintendent
Dear Parents and Patrons,
I suspect by the time you read this Focus, your County Real and Personal Property Tax invoice has been received. Perhaps most noteworthy, as with most counties, support for public education is generally the largest percentage of local ad valorem taxes. So, how are Fulton Public School funds allocated?
The FPS budget, all funds and all sources, that was approved by the Board of Education totals $24,061,917. Expenditures for all funds are allocated as: 71.34% salaries and benefits; 12.06% supplies; 6.92% purchased services; 2.04% equipment; and, 7.64% debt payments.
Revenue sources for all funds are: 49.62% local funding (basically Real and Personal Property tax); 2.15% county funding; 38.95% state funding; 9.21% federal funding; and, 0.07% miscellaneous funding sources.
The major expenditure in any school budget is the number of teachers and their compensation. Board of Education objectives, as defined by the 2017-2022 Strategic Plan, include competitive compensation for all staff with the specific intent of eliminating the high faculty turnover that has been experienced the past few years, effective class sizes, and increased student support focused on mental health support.
Due to recent reorganization of state revenue, that important category of funding is becoming unstable with decreases forcing a greater dependence upon local revenue. Hence, to accomplish most any district improvements, financial support will only come from the local community.
Posted on the Fulton 58 web site you may review the current 2017-2018 (FY18) budget.
Also available on the web site are the monthly tools your Board of Education uses to monitor district financial resources. Included in these materials is the Monthly Treasurers Report and Monthly Financial Update. Any questions about the budget or monthly reports may be addressed to me by phone, e-mail, or in person.
On behalf of the Fulton Faculty and Staff we sincerely appreciate your support. Thank you for sending great students for us to work with!
