We Are A.R.M.Y. Strong!!

"As a member of the Continental Army, I promise to be Accountable, Respectful, Motivated to Learn, and do mY best."

Our vision is to ensure that all students are WMS ARMY Strong and are prepared for high school, college and careers.

Social Worker Groups

Mrs. Miller will begin new Lunch Bunch Groups in November. These include:

  • Anger Management Part II focusing on emotion management skills
  • Zones of Regulation focusing on emotion identification, triggers, and how our emotions affect others around us.
  • Coping Skills focusing on various ways to cope with intense emotions and assisting participants in determining what works best for them.

If you are interested in your child participating in a Lunch Bunch, please email Mrs. Miller at hmiller@youthfirstinc.org. In order to participate, students must have a signed consent on file which can be sent to you via email or a paper copy.

Social Skills are important, too!

WMS will begin focusing on a social skill a week as a school to help reinforce life skills necessary to be successful in various avenues. On Monday, we will introduce the social skill of Following Instructions taken from "Tools for Teaching Social Skills in School". Please ask your student about the social skill of the week and how they can implement the steps at home as well.

ISTEP is out and ILEARN is in

This year, the state of Indiana has changed the End of Year test for our students. It used to be called ISTEP, but the new test is ILEARN. It is created by a new company and has many more technology enhanced items and a focus on application of skills. If you missed our PTSA meeting last week about the new test, the information can be found at this link: https://www.doe.in.gov/assessment/ilearn-families

If you have questions about this test or how Washington Middle School is preparing students for higher expectations, please contact Mrs. Branson at 812-477-8983.

PTSA Membership Drive

The PTSA (Parent-Teacher-Student-Association) is a private, non-profit organization of parents, teachers, students and community members who strive to better the lives of children. We are part of an association that is organized at the local, state and national levels. Our focus is to support and speak on behalf of children and youth in schools, in the community and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting our children.

Your membership to the Washington PTSA does the above, plus allows our PTSA to have events for our students, plus provide items that the school needs that are not allows budgeted by the EVSC.

Student members receive one free dress day per grading period, along with free entrance to all 3 dances, and ice cream day per grading period, a coupon book designed just for them with great discounts for PTSA sponsored events.

Individual memberships are $7.00, a double membership for $12.50, 3 memberships for $18.00, and a family 4 pack for $25.00. The PTSA only keeps $1.75 of each membership sold. The remaining amount of $5.25 goes to the Indiana PTA dues, and the National PTA dues.

So while we advocate for students when needed, we also do some fundraisers. The goal this year is to help the school purchase a new projection system and screen for the auditorium. In order to do this, we are fundraising, we are having restaurant give back nights, we are doing Yankee Candle Sales, and a few others coming up. So please support your PTSA, and join today.
