High School Device Swap & Laptop Deployment

We are very excited that our device swap day is quickly approaching. On Friday, January 24, new HP laptops will be deployed to all students at Clear Horizons.

A student must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

* Parent Acknowledgment Form on file

* Clear of any Technology Fines

To receive a new HP device, students must:

* Turn in their old district laptop and charger on the day of deployment. Laptops will be assessed and any fees for damage must be paid before a new laptop is issued.

* Provide their Clear Horizons ID Badge to scan and link the new laptop to each student.

Students who choose not to receive a new district laptop must still turn in their old laptop and charger by January 20. Students who do not turn in their old district laptop will be placed on the fine list for $450.

Instructions have been posted in the CHECHS Students course in Its Learning on how to back-up their files to OneDrive. Time will be set aside in Advisory for students to do this. Members of our technology team are available to assist any student who has difficulty with this process.

Free SAT for Juniors!

Thanks to new legislation in House Bill 3, the Texas Education Agency will now underwrite the cost for all Juniors to take the SAT for free during the school day in the spring semester of eleventh grade. Clear Creek ISD has selected Wednesday, March 4, as our test date. The SAT is used for college admissions purposes and the results will be submitted by the school with each college application. San Jacinto College supports these efforts and will not penalize our scholars for having to miss Dual Credit classes on March 4.

Global Navigator Scholar Named at CHECHS!

Clear Horizons Junior Julie Trinh has won a three-week, all expense paid summer service learning trip to India! She will participate with a female cohort to support young children attending a government school in Hyderabad, India. They will build rapport and relationships to help improve the students' English speaking skills.

Julie's cohort will also participate in cultural activities and overnight excursions to palaces, mosques, temples, and centuries-old markets. They will visit the largest Tibetan settlement in India and a Jain temple with the world's tallest monolithic stone statue. Julie will participate in classic Hyderabad traditions introduced by the Persians long ago.

Julie will return to Clear Horizons with 50+ hours of international service learning credit, a rare perspective of the educational system in another country, and an intercultural experience of a lifetime!

Congratulations, Julie! Many thanks to the CIEE Global Navigator High School Study Abroad Program!
