Weaver Lake Family Newsletter
January 2023
Message from the Principal
Greetings Weaver Lake Wolfpack,
Thank you for all your support during Tri 1. We celebrated academic successes and had our STEM in Action Fair. Students also had a grade level dance party for earning over 5,000 I Spy slips as a school. Our PBIS Student Committee held a "Making Change," fundraiser and with your help raised $1,300.30. This money will go to River Hall Elementary and help their students and families in hurricane relief.
Make sure you read through this whole newsletter as you will find out information about STEM Identities, MVP Students, and how to sign up to each lunch on Fridays with your child(ren).
I want to wish you all a Happy Holiday and New Year on behalf of the staff and myself. We are looking forward to seeing all our STEM Scholars back from winter break on January 3rd!
With Warm Regards,
Lena Christiansen, Principal

Lunch Sign Up for Parents - Starting in January
Starting in January, Fridays will be a chance for parents to sign up to come eat with their child in the cafeteria. Space is limited and parents are encouraged to only sign up once a month.
Please sign up for the grade level that your student is in. This will be the time you will be joining them for lunch.
- Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
- Parents will be allowed to have lunch with their child(ren) every Friday. Limit two guests per child.
- Because there is limited space for guests, we ask that parents sign up for a maximum of one lunch per month. You may sign up on the same day for your children in different grades.
- Cost of the school lunch for parents is $5.00 (please bring exact change!). You can use your child's lunch account if they normally pay full price for lunch. Free/reduced lunch families will need to pay for their meal using cash. The school lunch menu can be found here: https://schools.mealviewer.com/school/OsseoISDElementarySchools
- Please arrive 5 minutes prior to the start of the scheduled lunch time for your child(ren). If you are purchasing a school lunch for yourself, we ask that you go through the lunch line BEFORE students arrive.
- All parents are asked to be seated at a designated table. Your child(ren) will sit at that table with you after they have gone through the school lunch line (if needed).
- Parents joining their child(ren) for lunch are asked to clean up their area at the end of lunch.
- Please delete your reservation if you are unable to make it to allow for other parents to attend.
Recess Reminder
Indoor recess will be held with the temperature at lunchtime is below 0 degrees and the wind-chill falls below -5 degrees.
STEM Identities from Jen Gaab
This year, we've been rolling out our new program for STEM Identities. Students take on various roles as they inquire, discover, explore, and achieve. Through unique learning opportunities at Weaver Lake, students practice these roles from kindergarten through fifth grade in order to build independence in their learning. There are eight identities, and we focus on one each month. Classrooms discuss the identity, complete activities tied to it, and then have a mini-celebration. Each student also receives an identity tag that they put on their backpack or hang in the classroom.
September: A STEM identity is who you are when you do science, technology, engineering, and math.
October: A questioner is a STEM student that wonders, has curiosity, and wants to find out about the world.
November: A creator is a STEM student that uses ideas or materials to make something new.
December: A communicator is a STEM student that respectfully exchanges ideas with others using evidence.
January: A problem solver is a STEM student that combines ideas from multiple perspectives to find solutions.
February: A collaborator is a STEM student that contributes to a project and gets others involved in the process.
March: A collector is a STEM student that gathers information and data in an organized way.
April: An analyzer is a STEM student that looks at information and data to find patterns and relationships.
May: An evaluator is a STEM student that uses criteria and evidence to give suggestions.
