Garage Sale
As part of our fundraising for the Year 6 day out, we will be holding a garage sale on Tuesday 20 September. We would appreciate any donations of books, toys, board games or puzzles (no electrical items or clothing please). Could you bring these to Room 11. Thank you to those who have already donated.
Health
The Year 4’s will be learning about kindness and cooperation as we continue to build a positive relationship with each other as a health group. We will also be introducing the anonymous question box so that students can have their wonderings answered as we progress through the topics.
The Year 5’s will be finding out what we already know about sexuality from various sources such as T.V./Media, family and friends or from school and which sources to trust the most. We will be setting up expectations around a question box inline with the guidelines we formed last week.
The Year 6s will be looking at the stages of life from baby to elderly, and everything in between. We will also start using our question box.
Airtight storage containers
We are starting to think forward to the Market day next term. We require a number of large storage containers for what we want to make. If you have any large sistema or similar containers that you wouldn’t mind us using please send them to school labelled with your child’s name. We will return them to you after the market day in November.
Swimming Sports
Thank you to Ali Sprott for organising our swimming sports. What an effort it was with all the changes but the event was incredibly successful, it’s great to start to return to normal. Also, a huge thank you to all those who helped with the event, we can’t do these things without you and really appreciate your time and support.
We still need help to run the Northern Zones event on 26th August. We will be asking parents of students who are attending to help with transporting the students to and from the event in Kilbirnie, and also with various jobs on the day. We are also asking for help from anyone who is available, even if your child is not attending. Please contact Ali if you are available for this event also.
Taking children out of school between 9am and 3pm
If you need to take your child/ren out of class during the school day for any reason, e.g., an appointment, could you please ensure that an adult tells the office when they take them out and, if necessary, the time that they are returned?
Mask Wearing Update
Thank you for your support since the start of the term when mask-wearing was reinstated for y4-6 staff and students. School transmission of Covid is low at Paparangi and we credit mask wearing as one the main tools that is helping here. Therefore the compulsory period is being extended for three more weeks requiring mask wearing in all indoor settings for students and staff in Years 4 and above (where it will not have a significant impact on teaching and learning). Therefore we ask that all Y4-6 students and staff keep wearing masks until Friday 9 September when the school's Pandemic Response Team will review the situation.
Hell Pizza Reading Challenge
The HELL Reading Challenge is a highly successful programme that gets tamariki reading and enjoying the pleasures of books, with the bonus of free pizza rewards.
How the Reading Challenge works:
Children are being given “pizza wheels”. Every time they finish a book, a slice of the wheel gets clicked off or signed by a teacher. When they have finished seven books, they can take their completed pizza wheel to any HELL Pizza outlet and redeem it for a free 333 kids’ pizza.
Here are the rules:
• Each pizza wheel is good for one 333 kids' pizza from any HELL Pizza outlet nationwide
• The wheel must be signed by a teacher and stamped with the official school stamp
• One pizza per visit per child
• Wheels are non-transferable for money
• Children must redeem their free pizza in person, and before Tuesday 31 January 2023.
Seesaw
Seesaw is a simple way for teachers and students to record and share what's happening in the classroom. Seesaw gives students a place to document their learning, be creative and learn how to use technology. Each student gets their own journal and will add things to it, like photos, videos, drawings, or notes. Each week more and more learning is being shared there. We highly recommend you check it and engage in conversation with your child about their learning.
Athletics
This term we are doing an athletics rotation during P.E. Please ensure that your child is coming to school each day prepared for such activities (i.e. clothing and footwear suitable for running and jumping). A spare pair of socks and shoes in your child's bag would also be great if possible.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything with us, please remember that your first point of contact is your child’s home class teacher. Our email addresses are:
