Computer Hardware

a computer hardware is a compartment that allows a computer to work or enances the use of a computer.

Hard Drives

The hard drive is the main storage for a computer that permanently stores all data on the computer. Hard drives are abbreviated sometimes as HDD( Hard Disk Drive) and HD( Hard Drive).

SSD stands for solid state drive which stores memory persistently

Optical Drives

In comptering, an optical drive(ODD) is a drive that uses a laser to read optical disks such as; blue ray disks, DVDs and compac disks.


A monitor is the screen that allows you to observe what you are doing.

Input & Output devices

in computing input/ output is the communication between the computer prcessing in the outside world. for example one output device would be a printer/ scanner but an input device would be a keyboard or  mouse.

Touch Screens

touch screens are display screens that allow users to interact by touching parts of the screen


CPU stands for central processing unit which acts as the computers brain, where all the calculations take place


RAM stands for random access memory, this acts as a form of data storage. it allows any kind of stored to take place directly in any random order.


a circuit board that contains the principal components of a computer or any device, this allows different hardware to connect and communicate between each other

Tim Berners-lee & Alan Turning

Tim Berners-lee is famous for creating the world wide web/ the internet. Also he had successfully been the first person to make an internet server and client.

Alan turning was a British mathematician, logician, crypt analyst and a computer scientist. He is famous for creating the first general purpose computer known as the turning machine.

The generations of computers

The generations of computers consist of embedded computers, microcomputers, minicomputers, mainframe computers and super computers.

An embedded system is a computer system with a dedicated function within a larger mechanical or electrical system, often with real-time computing constraints. It is embedded as part of a complete device often including hardware and mechanical parts.

A microcomputer is a small computer that contains a microprocessor as its central processor.

A minicomputer is a computer of medium power, more than a microcomputer but less than a mainframe.

A mainframe computer is a large digital computer serving 100-400 users.

A supercomputer is a particularly powerful mainframe computer.
