One of our goals in the Library Media Center this year has been to continue to increase the diversity in our collection. Since it is particularly important for children to see themselves within stories so they know their own experiences are valued, we have been working to continue to diversify our collection. We have focused on adding diverse titles to our physical collection as well as our digital collection. In addition to increasing diversity in our collection, we are also working to add additional higher Lexile titles. If your students have any book title suggestions that they would like to give to us, please visit the Library Media Center website and click on the button on the main page to type in your requests. Thank you as always for your support of literacy at Madras Middle School!

Coweta Schools’ COVID-19 Protocol Changes
Dear Coweta Schools Parents and Employees,
Following January 6 guidance from the Georgia Governor’s Office and the Georgia Department of Public Health, our school system will change its current COVID-19 protocols to modify quarantine procedures for all students and staff. This change allows for greater choice for families or individuals experiencing close-contact COVID quarantine.
Under this change, students or staff who have been identified as a close contact to someone diagnosed with COVID-19, and who meet the criteria for quarantine, but who show no symptoms, may attend school. If they attend school classes while asymptomatic, the DPH is requiring these individuals to wear a mask for 10 full days following the date of last exposure, monitor for symptoms, and follow other DPH requirements. This option is allowed regardless of vaccination status. School system staff will continue to conduct contact tracing to identify students and staff that may be close contacts.
This change does not apply to individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 or are presumed to be positive. It also does not apply to individuals who show symptoms of COVID-19.
Individuals who have been identified as a close contact may also, alternately, opt to remain home from school during their quarantine period. This change allows for students, their families, and employees, to make the choice to attend school if they are not symptomatic.
The Coweta County School System, in consultation with the Georgia Department of Health, has maintained a set of COVID-19 protocols and procedures throughout the pandemic. The goal, at all times, has been to maintain health and school safety, while also prioritizing in-person instruction for students whenever possible, and in the least restrictive manner possible.
Absences due to precautionary quarantining of students and staff impose significant impacts to our schools and our educational mission. Quarantining of asymptomatic individuals deprives otherwise healthy students of in-person daily instruction, and frequently threatens our ability to provide for daily operations of our schools and school system. Our school system has opted for modified quarantine, as allowed by the state, to give families and employees greater choice in these matters and to preserve our schools’ ability to ensure continued in-person instruction.
In short, if students or employees test positive for COVID, or if they show symptoms of illness, they should stay home. If they are close contacts, but show no symptoms of illness, they may come to school.
All other elements of our COVID safety precautions remain in place. Our school system will continue to evaluate all aspects of our plan as local conditions warrant. Safety remains our highest priority, and we will also continue to inform staff, students and families of risks and of relevant health guidance.
We appreciate the support of our parents, students, and staff as we work to provide high-quality instruction and the best school experience for students possible throughout these difficult times.

Instruction for Students Who Are Quarantined
Academic Class Assignments: All daily assignments will be posted on Google Classroom. Students have the log in.
Class Check-In’s: Team Teachers have a check-in time that students can sit in on a class during the day to hear live instruction when applicable. This is not like Empower/Virtual teaching last year. The teachers are teaching and will not be interacting with students at home during this time; however, students can view the teachers’ instructions live if he/she is able (although not required of students). There will be another time (when they’re not teaching) that teachers will be available to check in with students at home to answer any questions they have.
Student Check-In Help: Teachers have set aside a time to check in with students at home when they are not teaching a class.
Email a question: Students can ask teachers specific questions via Google Classroom, Infinite Campus, or email at any time.
Team Instructional Plans for Quarantined Students

- Romans (Schober)
- Opportunity (Chaves)
- Perseverance (Foncannon)
