A Special Guest Joins Us for the Pledge of Allegiance

Principal's Message
On Thursday, October 15, the Commissioner of Education, Angélica Infante-Green, visited KMS to meet teachers and students to show her support as we continue our mission. We had the opportunity to highlight many of the great things that are happening here at KMS and Commissioner Infante-Green was able to spend a good amount of time chatting with teachers and students. We were honored to have her here along with Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Brice, School Committee Chairperson Erin Schofield, and School Committee member John Saviano.
Now that we have reached the half way point of the first quarter, I would like to send another reminder to check the parent portal in ASPEN to review your child's progress. Please contact your child's teacher directly with any questions. The first quarter will end on Friday, November 13.
Monday, October 19, is a statewide PD day, meaning that all school districts across the state will be involved in professional learning. There are six PD days in our calendar added by the Rhode Island Department of Education: October 19, November 16, January 25, March 15, April 12, and May 17. Thursday, May 13 in a PD day for teachers in BWRSD, but students will have no classes on that day. Please refer to the notice below for more specifics.
Have a great weekend,
Dennis Morrell

Traveling Teachers
Reopening guidelines have shifted many of our traditional rituals and routines. Our teachers are hard at work balancing all of the many shifts. We have witnessed lots of out of the box thinking like our traveling teacher carts.
Our teacher here at KMS go the extra mile to give students authentic learning experiences.
Learning Objectives Cart Traditionally, teachers write the learning objective each day on the board. The learning objective is an important part of each lesson as it helps to focus students on what they should know and be able to accomplish by the end of their lesson. When teachers no longer have a home base and white board to write on creative ideas like this one helps to keep this important ritual and routine going. The teacher cart above shows a creative way of traveling and ensuring that student learning objective travel from room to room as well. | Traveling Library Students have not been able to visit our library and borrow books in quite the same way. The traveling cart below shows our traveling library. Students can request books electronically. Books are sanitized and delivered by our librarian to student homerooms. Books are returned to the cart and packaged in a to be cleaned box. We are impressed with our students' interest in reading. | Art on Wheels! Take a look at this art on a cart. Students use 3D models for sketches. This art display travels from classroom to classroom. We love the out of the box thinking on demonstrating in the box art. |
