Red Ribbon Week
This year, we will participate in Red Ribbon Week October 23-27. Our counselor, Erin Lowe, will coordinate a variety of messages for our students throughout the week, as well as provide a small reminder for each Central student. Our students are encouraged to participate in fun dress-up days, reminding them to stay drug free! Our days this year are:
Monday, October 23:
"Band Against Drugs!" - Western Wear
**All students will be provided with a bandana!**
Tuesday, October 24:
"Put a Lid on Drugs!" - Wear Hats
Wednesday, October 25:
"Wild About Being Drug Free!" - Wear Animal Print
Thursday, October 26:
"Too Smart to Start Drugs!" - Dress as a "Nerd"
Friday, October 27:
"Put Drugs to Sleep!" - Wear Pajamas
Your child can participate in as many days as they would like but they certainly do not have to participate in them all. Ultimately, we hope that this week of fun brings awareness to drug prevention and encourages our students to live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle!
Halloween Parties & Costume Parade
Students are encouraged to dress as a favorite storybook character for a fun day at school! While not required, students are encouraged to bring their book along for the day so they can share their story with others! Please remember that students are not allowed to have scary or bloody costumes or make-up - we have itty bitty Pirates at Central and want to make sure the day is fun and safe for all. To ensure student safety, face masks are allowed for the parade only, but must be removed for the remainder of the day. Please help us keep our building clean by refraining from excessive face paint. We love seeing the creative costumes our students come up with each year and know this year will be no different!
We will begin our annual Halloween parade at 8:15. Parents are encouraged to find a seat in the cafeteria after drop-off in order to capture the fun as students parade to the cafeteria and across the stage.
Halloween party times are as follows:
PK: 9:15 AM
Kindergarten: 12:00 PM
First Grade: 9:30 AM
Second Grade: 10:15 AM
Third Grade: 11:00 AM
Fourth Grade: 11:15 AM
Fifth Grade: 9:45 AM
PIRATE Points
We want to encourage students to display excellent citizenship and we hope to do so by awarding PIRATE points all throughout the year. Students can earn points for the following positive behaviors:
P - Positive Attitude
I - Innovation
R - Respectful Behavior
A - Academic Achievement
T - Teamwork
E - Exceeding Expectations
Any Central staff member or Watch DOG can award points and any individual student or group can earn them for their House. We are on the lookout for Pirates who are going above and beyond to be excellent citizens! We look forward to recognizing their efforts!
Staff members are asked to use *ONLY* the categories above to award points to students/Houses. Please do not add your own categories! Also, points are to be added ONLY, not to be taken away. Please do not customize categories and points; use the campus point designations only!
UPDATED - Parent's Guide to Grading
We want to make sure all Central educators are familiar with the newly-updated section regarding re-teaching. That section now reads:
Re-teaching
The purpose of re-teaching is to allow students who have not yet demonstrated mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills additional opportunities to learn. Reteaching is also a component of an effective intervention/RTI system. Sometimes, students need more time to learn the concepts or material, or need the material presented in another format. Summative assessments may be eligible for re-assessment with the exception of semester exams and long-term major projects. Students shall be provided re-teaching and a second re-assessment opportunity within the same grading period if at all possible.
I have copied the updated "Parent's Guide to Grading" and placed one in your box. Please add this to Section 7 of your Employee Reference Binder" for future reference. The updated copy is also attached below for your reference.
Central Elementary Vision Statement
The vision of Lubbock-Cooper Central Elementary is to cultivate a welcoming, respectful, and safe environment where all are supported and valued equally.
Pirates will be enthusiastically challenged with innovative ideas that encourage academic and civic achievement.
