Early Education News

November 2021

Greetings from the Early Education Center

A variety of updates, events, and opportunities for families with young children are below to keep you in-the-know.

Message from the Health Para:

Hi, families! I just want to thank all of you for taking a part in keeping preschoolers healthy this fall. As the temperatures are dropping, please continue to monitor your child for symptoms of illness. Common Covid-19 symptoms to look for include fevers, coughs, runny noses, and fatigue. If your child has multiple symptoms please keep them home and contact the health office. Please reference the APS Student Covid-19 Decision Tree for more information.

If your child develops symptoms at school, a limited number of Covid-19 PCR tests are available for your convenience. With your permission, tests can be administered at school with results in just a few minutes. We will continue to follow 24-hour symptom-free procedures for school attendance.

Also, the Early Education Center no longer requires your child to quarantine when preschoolers are in contact with a positive Covid-19 case at school. However, we commit to communicating information about positive cases and other contagious illnesses within your child’s class to allow you the information you need to keep your family safe. Additionally, we are still following quarantine procedures for any outside school or household contacts. Please see the attached flowchart for more information.

Masks continue to be strongly recommended for all adult guests. Please continue to wear a mask when visiting, bringing your student to class, and volunteering in the classroom.

As always, we welcome you to reach out with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your partnership in keeping kids healthy and learning at school.

Stay Healthy Tips

There are other easy ways to keep your kids healthy this fall! Reach out if you need suggestions for implementing these stay-healthy tips (eecinfo@alexschools.org):

  • Encourage good sleeping habits: Preschoolers still need between 11 and 13 hours of sleep nightly! A calm evening, relaxing bedtime routine, and soft morning wake-up encourage healthy sleep.

  • Manage stress: Families can work together to learn deep breathing, body calming and mindfulness practices to manage stress.

  • Practice handwashing: Teaching good handwashing techniques frequently is important. Build opportunities to scrub fingers into your family routine. Use it as an opportunity to count to 20, sing silly songs, or make faces in the mirror.

  • Stay active: Take advantage of opportunities for indoor and outdoor physical exertion, even while the days are getting shorter. Ask us for ideas to get the family wiggles out!

Construction Updates

Our landscape continues to change with the ongoing construction of 2 new early education classrooms and the relocation of Shenanigan’s. Check out the progress!
