Winter Reminders

Please help your child remember to bring a nutritious lunch each day to school. As Montessorians, we encourage your child to participate in this process as much as they are able (picking out and packing their food) as we want to encourage personal responsibility. We also want to set the children up for success and having lunch is crucial.

It is now chilly and snow covered when we go outside for recess. Please ensure that your child packs or wears appropriate cold weather gear (especially hats and gloves) as we will go outside for recess each day - except in cases of poor air quality or extreme cold. Remind your children that throwing snow is not appropriate or safe at school.

Elementary Winter Concert

Hi Parents,

We are excited to invite you to our Elementary Winter concert on December 9th. Lower elementary classes will be performing starting at 5:30pm. Please have your students here by 5:15pm to get set up. Upper elementary classes will perform starting at 7:00pm. Please have them here by 6:45pm to get set up.

Each student should wear black on the bottom (pants/skirts/etc.) and a solid color shirt (their shirt does not need to have a collar). Some classes will be dancing, so have your kids wear comfortable shoes. Please email Ms. Sarah with any questions. Thank you!

THANK YOU!

At MMA we closed out the month of November with a huge gratitude boom! We have had so many wonderful community events and family engagements and have you all to thank for these experiences. We have photo bombed you all to share our wonderful news! We hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving break last week. Thank you for being a part of the MMA family!

A Message from the MMA Board

Dear MMA Community,

On behalf of the board we want to say that we were thinking of you with gratitude and giving thanks for all you do for the school. We are grateful for your loyalty, commitment, and your love for a Montessori education for your children. MMA teachers, staff and administration are very appreciative of your support. We thank MAPA for the various activities that they have supported for our school i.e. skate night, Fall Festival, food for teachers during conferences, and the annual Community Gratitude feast.

As you return to school, we hope you will join us in looking forward to the upcoming activities in December like the elementary concert, junior high choir, and junior high play. In addition, we welcome you to attend other events coming up in January 2020, such as the 3rd Annual Northern Utah Charter and Home Schools Storytelling Concert event to be hosted in our school on Friday January 17, 6:30-8pm, science fair, parents education night, etc.

We still need your support in spreading the word among your sphere of influence about these

wonderful events taking place in our school and help get our student enrollment up. Let everyone you come in contact with know that MMA is the place for them and there are still openings at our amazing school. We extend our holiday wish and a bright 2020 to all.

With Gratitude,

Joan Effiong, Board chair

MMA is "Yeti for the World." We had so much fun at Ogden's Light Parade! Our float this year was awesome! Thank you Ikerd family, for supplying and driving a truck to pull our float. Thank you Lauren Pejza for snapping beautiful pictures of the night.
Big picture
Thank you to those elementary kiddos who rode the float and the junior high students who passed out MMA chapstick and the 'Feel the Love at MMA Day' fliers. Thank you MMA alum, Ryker Douglas, who made a very enthusiastic yeti.
Big picture
Thank you to the Pejza and Gonzales families for your help building the float. Thank you to the Archuleta family for the use of your generator to power the float. Thank you Ms. Autumn and Dave Baker for running around town purchasing supplies, picking up the float in the snow, and for the conceptual design.
Thanks to all of our MMA families for assisting your children in researching and creating a presentation for our annual International Festival. Thank you to those family members and friends who attended this event, providing an authentic audience for our students to present.
Thank you MAPA for hosting another fantastic Gratitude Feast where members of our community are honored and fed. Thank you to all those families who prepped and dropped off soup and salad. Thank you Heather Koci, Rachell Sampson, Lauren Pejza, Dessa Wright, Dorothy Simnitt, Taylor Monsen, and Jacquelyn Kaminsky for your help in setting up, serving, and clean up for this event.

A day later, MAPA also provided food for our junior high teachers during parent-teacher conferences.

We thank all of our families for getting the word out and participating in our Fun Run fundraisers. As you can see, we have raised over $10,000 to help MMA purchase gym infrastructure like stage curtains and bleachers. Thank you, Booster team, for helping us in this endeavor.

Montessori Lingo

Do you ever wonder what your child is talking about when they come home? What is this lingo that they are speaking? This is a great resource of Montessori terminology a library of terms: https://montessori-ami.org/resource-library/facts/glossary-montessori-terms

Creativity / Imagination

Imagination involves the forming of a mental concept of what is not actually present to the sense. Creativity is a product of the imagination and results from the mental recombining of imagined ideas in new and inventive ways. Both are dependent on mental imagery formed through sensorial experience.

Three Hour Work Cycle

Through years of observation around the world, Montessori came to understand that children, when left in freedom, displayed a distinct work cycle which was so predictable it could even be graphed. This cycle, with two peaks and one valley, lasted approximately three hours. In Montessori schools children have about three hours of open, uninterrupted time to choose independent work, become deeply engaged, and repeat to their own satisfaction.
