Principal's Newsletter
January 26, 2018
Dr. Rachel Williams, Principal
From the Principal
Dear Parents,
Can you believe we made it through five consecutive days of school without any weather interruptions? This week, we were so happy to have a full week of teaching and learning. It is the only way we can build up our momentum as we head into 2018. Of course we are off schedule and out of our routines, but I hope you feel things are getting back to normal as quickly as possible. Our teachers and students have a great deal of catching up to do.
A school messenger went out on Wednesday regarding student make up days which will be February 16, March 9, and March 12. February 16 and March 12 were previously teacher workday/professional development days and are being converted to instructional days for students. Fulton County Schools will pilot a Digital Learning Day on March 9 (also previously a teacher workday) where students will work independently from home on schoolwork and projects using district-issued mobile devices or home technology. The specifics of the Digital Learning Day on March 9 are still being determined, and we will communicate with you when we have more details.
Just a gentle reminder, we have seen diagnosed cases of the flu in our school since we returned from the holidays. Please make sure you are sanitizing and washing items at home on a regular basis. More than 300 flu cases have been seen in Georgia hospitals. We received a reminder from Student Health Services this week of small things we can all do to assist us in preventing the spread of germs. These include:
*Wash hands with soap and water often.
*Eat fruits and veggies.
*Keep your hands away from your face.
*Cover your mouth when coughing or cough into your arm.
*Stay away from people who are sick.
*If you have a fever do not return to school until you are free of the fever for 24 hours.
For additional information regarding the flu, please see the see the separate flyer attached.
Finally, take a look at the bottom of my newsletter for event dates that were rescheduled due to weather and make note of these on your calendars. I want to thank the wonderful staff at Crabapple Crossing for keeping you informed during the snow/ice days. Many of them copied me on their communications to you and I could see that learning continued. I was so impressed with the level of detail some of the teachers gave you so that you could keep the learning going at home. The amount of learning through technology I saw was unbelievable, even in kindergarten. Shout out to Mrs. Campbell’s kindergarten class who posted “How To” stories to Padlet and allowed me to comment. Our youngest students never cease to amaze me. Keep up the great work and as always, thanks for your support!
