From the desk of Wendy Gonzaba
Thank you for keeping the focus on student learning
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
It truly takes a village, and all of you go above and beyond to serve and support every student on this campus, every day. Our students are so fortunate to be greeted with smiles, hugs or handshakes as they enter the building every day, they receive quality instruction in their classrooms and in their support classes from dedicated and passionate teachers who also understand the power in building meaningful relationships with them, and they are provided opportunities that include things like homework help, library book clubs, chess, basketball, theater and music, sewing and so much more! WOW!!
We truly have some of the most amazing educators on this campus!
THANK YOU for the tireless hours you spend in planning engaging and relevant lessons, for your dedication to continuously improving your craft through PLC's and Professional Development, for your growth mindset and for your strong commitment to ensuring student success, on every level, at Akin Elementary.
YOU ARE APPRECIATED!
Love,
Beckie and Wendy

Continuous Improvement Conference-Call for Proposals
Leander ISD is built upon a foundation of support, collaboration, and the sharing of best practices.
One of the ways that we exemplify this is through LISD’s annual Continuous Improvement Conference, slated for October 14 & 15, 2019. To ensure that the conference continues to be a place for us to share, explore, and learn from one another, we need your contribution!
Please consider submitting a session proposal by completing this Google Form:
2019 Conference - Call for Proposals by May 31st.
All sessions should align to one (or more) of the following strands:
- High-Quality Teaching & Learning
- PLCs
- Leadership Development
- Culture & Vision
- Health, Wellness, & Safety
- Support Staff & Systems
The session proposal planning guide will help you think through some key decisions prior to completing the proposal form. Additionally, you can access some example titles, descriptions, and tips for writing your proposal.
Thank you in advance for being a part of the 2019 Continuous Improvement Conference. Your willingness to share is the heart of the conference and the embodiment of continuous improvement!

Growth Mindset
Akin Aviators!
We will be a closed campus on all STAAR testing dates. Please share this in your newsletters, too. Parent will not be allowed to have lunch or go to any classroom for any reason while our campus is STAAR testing. Here is what you can use in your newsletters...
"Due to the requirements of our state testing, we ask that parents (K-5th grade) do not eat lunch with their student(s) and/or volunteer on these days (May 13th, 14th and 15th). This means that we will need to have a "closed campus" due to testing. Thank you for your support!"
