WYWLA WEEKLY UPDATE
Friday, May 14, 2021
LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL
The last day of school is Friday, May 21st. Thank you for your support throughout the school year. Your grace and understanding are greatly appreciated. We hope you have a fun and stress-free summer break.
REMINDERS
- All WCPSS issued HOT SPOT DEVICES must to be RETURNED to WYWLA by May 24th. An email was sent to families that were given hot spots. Please make sure you return any cords or cases that you may have as well. Please make sure the device is labeled with your child's name before returning it.
- Seniors (not 5th year seniors) and any student who is not returning to a WCPSS school must return Chromebooks. Please make sure the device is labeled with your child's name before returning it.
- We will collect hot spots, Chromebooks, textbooks, ELA novels, library books, and school issued calculators each morning (7:10 - 7:30am) and afternoon (2:10 - 2:30pm) in carpool. We will also collect donated uniforms during the same times.
- We will distribute yearbooks, awards, etc. to Virtual Academy students on Monday, May 24th between 8:00am and 12:00pm. You may also drop off school issued items during this time. Drop-off and pick-up will be in the main office in Lineberry Hall.
- Again, if your child is attending a WCPSS school next year, she will not return her Chromebook.
- Thank you to all of the families that joined Group Me this year. We created the group to help us communicate when school was closed last spring due to Covid. As you know, this platform is not supported by the district and staff members can't view posts while using a district-issued device or WiFi. We will close the group at the end of the school year and explore other options prior to the start of the new year. If you need information or have questions after May 21th, please call or email. Here is the link to staff members who can assist.
- This is the last Weekly Update for the year. We will resume in July. Have a great summer!!!

NEXT PTSA MEETING
The next meeting is Tuesday, May 18th at 5:00pm, virtually. Unlike our usual meetings, this will be a general meeting. A general meeting of the membership is the time to vote on the most important things: election of officers, and approval of the budget. A quorum of 20 is required – so show up! And bring your student if she is a member.
The budget to be voted on is the Interim Budget. It allows for spending to take place between now and our first meeting next August when the membership votes on the 2021-22 official budget. I don’t think the 2020-21 budget will need to be amended or voted on. But stay tuned.
Elections! The slate for Officers of the WYWLA PTSA is
Lynette Zarrett, President
Laura Asselin, VP
Victor Mendez, VP
Lia Pate-Carolan, Treasurer
Ojochide Frank, Secretary
They are qualified and excited to take on these rolls. PTSA is in excellent hands.

I wish you all the best. With just one week to go of my time serving as president, I can’t believe it’s ending. As our family is also leaving WYWLA for a different high school, it is doubly poignant. It’s hard to say goodbye. I thank you all for your support of the school, the PTSA and me.
Kind regards,
Carol Winter
