The Manning Weekly Newsletter
December 18, 2020
Manning Community,
As you know, we've all been asked to dig deep during this challenging year, and at times our patience and resolve have been tested. That being said, I know that Manning will be in a better place when we finally overcome Covid and the challenges that it has brought this past year.
We are about to welcome in a New Year! When I think about the great possibilities of 2021, I am encouraged and it brings a smile to my face. To think that the medical and scientific community was able to produce a Covid vaccine in just under a year is an incredible accomplishment and it reminds me of how great we can be when we work together! This vaccine will eventually get us back to life as we remember, and finally, an opportunity to connect in person! I can't wait for this day!
Lastly, please take the time to fill out the family-school partnership survey. It is going to be open until January 3rd, and the survey will give us important data to continue making Manning the very best we can be!
Here is the link to the survey: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/5968764/FSP-2020-21
I hope that you and your family have a wonderfully relaxing and rejuvenating break.
Stronger Together,
Christian Ramaker

Mobile Mustang Information Corral
Hello, Mobile Mustang Parents and Guardians!
We hope that you have a wonderful break and time to rest over the next few days. In the last week we saw a glimmer of hope of a return to full time in person schooling with the release and use of a Covid vaccine. All of us would prefer to be in person and anyone who says they want schools to be “open” clearly hasn’t seen the hard work and commitment you and your child have done this semester. We greatly appreciate your support and willingness to work with us as we have built and modified this program on the fly.
We do have changes to the schedule next semester that better aligns both the hybrid and mobile schooling. We appreciate Ms. Edoff’s double duty of being a full time Digital Teacher Librarian and online ELA teacher. ELA will be taught by the Manning ELA teachers next semester. Mr. Johnson will continue to teach remote 6th and 8th grades and will be streaming into one hybrid 6th grade classroom. Ms. Whitacre will be teaching the mobile 7th grade Social Studies. Mr. Fulton (Science) and Ms. Cahill (Math) will continue with all levels of Mobile Mustangs for their content areas. These are the current plans, but as always, things may change before 2nd semester opening day.

SEL Corner....a place to fill up your bucket
Once again y’all, we did it. Made it to our winter break check point. Please take some time to thank yourselves for all this hard work. Below you’ll find resources for the break, next semester, and some ways to connect after break.
Parent Resources to Engage students
Bring A KINDNESS CHALLENGE TO IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!!
Manning’s GSA will be back in January!!! What’s GSA? You may know it as the Gay, Straight Alliance, but now GSA is reworked to be more inclusive and expansive. GSA is the Gender and Sexuality Alliance. GSA’s can take various forms. From support, to advocacy, to a safe place to share experiences and form friendships. Interested? Your student can express that through this interest form. We will be a local chapter, click on the link to learn more about the national GSA Network.
Want some ideas or short guided practices (and poorly told jokes), check out my YouTube page
Want to talk with me about anything social, emotional, or climate and cultural related? Use this Sign Up Genius to reserve your spot. There’s one on the 21st, then I’ll make more slots for the next semester when we get back.
At Manning, we strive to live our core values every day.
Student Shout Out for HONESTY
Student Shout Out for EFFORT
Jacob Sloan: Jacob has worked very hard in Pre-Algebra al of first semester. Not just to do the work but to truly understand the concepts. Many times staying after class and coming to tutor time to make sure he understands what he missed. He has shown a great deal of effort in learning math this year.
7th-grade Language Arts Students: We -- Ms. Claussen, Mr. Hageman and Ms. Edoff -- would like to thank all of our 7th-grade students for persevering through the Holocaust Literature Unit this past quarter! We are very proud of your thoughtfulness, your engagement, and your powerful final projects. We learned a lot from you!
Marley Burger: She has to work harder than most and she is doing very well !! Great Job Marley, keep the good effort!!
Student Shout Out for ACHIEVEMENT
7th grade ELA students: They carefully persisted in reading Anne Frank and then wrote amazing projects. They demonstrated learning about the effects of hatred and racism.
Vocabulary Class Students! Great job this semester in Vocabulary Class, aka Word Wonder! We learned -- and used -- over 100 new and complex vocabulary, and had some fun in the process!
Student Shout Out for RESPECT
Sophie Perlin: She asks great questions, cares for her peers, and shows curiosity. It’s a pleasure to have the chance to get to know you.
Natalie Miller: You are a natural leader. You show respect for yourself and others. We are lucky to have you as a Manning Mustang!
Student Shout Out for TEAMWORK
