Principal's Message

Dear Terra Linda Families,

We had quite a week last week! It was the first week that all of our Kindergarteners were at school, and it was the first full week for the other grades. Staff and students are all working on our stamina for full days of in-person instruction for five days in a row! Teachers were focused on building strong classroom communities and getting to know each of their students.

At the same time we are building community, we are also maintaining our focus on safety protocols like wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and frequent hand washing and hand sanitizing. We are also using quarantine as an additional tool to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Sometimes we will need to quarantine an individual student; other times we may need to quarantine an entire class. Both are preventative measures that follow Washington County Health Department guidance. Our sincere hope is that all of our safety measures allow in-person school to continue for the majority, if not all, of our students. If your student is in quarantine or is assigned to quarantine at some point in the future, please know we will connect with you and your student to help them continue learning while they are at home. Students who continue connecting with us at school each day while in quarantine will not be marked absent.

Emergency Drills

Students will be practicing several emergency procedures this week:

  • This morning, students participated in a Lockdown drill. Here is more information about BSD Emergency Protocols that you can use in case your child has any questions. Though lockdowns are used in only the most serious of situations, we explain to students that lockdowns are one way to keep them safe at school.
  • On Tuesday, students will participate in a fire drill. We practice evacuating the building quickly and quietly and gathering as a class outdoors away from the building.,
  • Teachers will also be showing students a bus evacuation video to explain what to do if there is an emergency while on a school bus while traveling to or from school or on a field trip.

Curriculum Night 9.23.21
Thursday is Curriculum Night! Your child's teacher will be on Zoom at 6:30pm to share details about their plans for this coming school year. Zoom codes will be sent out by your child's teachers. I will also send out a summary of codes on Wednesday.

On Friday, teachers will be sending out a recording of each session in case you have more than one child at Terra Linda and want to see all presentations. If your preferred language is something other than English, you can turn on the Closed Captioning feature in the YouTube video we send home.

If you would like an interpreter to meet with you on Zoom and interpret the recording in your preferred language, please send a ParentSquare message to Maria Anast and Liz Sarles. We will arrange an interpreter for you beginning the week of September 27.

Teachers are looking forward to connecting with you on Thursday!

With Appreciation,

Christy

Please take a look at the flowchart below showing the process that our school nurses and principals follow to determine who will need to be isolated or quarantined. As you can see, it's a very complex process! This is a repeat of information sent out by Community Involvement on Friday, but we wanted to be sure you read through it. Hispanic Heritage Month September 15-October 15

Please join us in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! We are inviting Terra Linda students, staff, and community to learn something new this month about Hispanic history, culture, and/or the contributions of Hispanic people. We then invite you to share what you learned with at least one other person!

Here are some resources for teachers that you could also look through in case you wanted to learn something new as a family: https://www.hispanicheritagemonth.gov/for-teachers/

How to Turn on Closed Captioning on YouTube videos

Here is an instructional video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pxr5lVcdHQ&t=86s

Below are steps to follow to turn on Closed Captioning and to change the language from English to your preferred language.

Transportation News: No Guest Riders

We are not allowing guest riders on buses this year, such as students going home with a friend for a play date, due to COVID, contact tracing, and space availability. Thank you for understanding.

Going Home Plan Changes

If you need to make a one-day change, please call our office prior to 12:00pm (noon) so that we can get the correct information to the teacher before dismissal. Thank you for helping to keep students safe!

Please Label Everything with your Child's Name

We already have a full Lost and Found. Please write your child's name on water bottles, lunch boxes, and any items students wear for layering (sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, hats, etc). We will return items to students if their name is on it. Thank you for your help!

Volunteers Needed

Breakfast & Lunch

We are looking for volunteers to help with Breakfast and Lunch. Duties will include assisting in staff in the Kitchen while students select their meal items or working with staff in the cafeteria. Volunteer opportunities available all school days from 8:10-8:40 and 10:30-1:00.

School Pictures

Dorian Studios staff needs two volunteers to assist with school pictures on Thursday, October 7 from 8:45am to 12:00pm. Duties will include giving students their picture card and helping to keep students distanced for safety.

For All Volunteers

Volunteers must be approved through the BSD volunteer system. Beginning October 18, all volunteers must be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination or have an approved exemption on file.

The above volunteer opportunities will be available for sign-up by tomorrow, 9/21. To sign up and to upload vaccination cards or exemption forms, go to this link: Better Impact Volunteer Page
