From the principal's office...
Happy Mothers' Day to all of you moms/aunts/grandmothers/mother figures out there. I hope you've had a good day with extra sweet kids!
We need a little help- this is something I never thought I would say, but we are having issues with kids bringing energy drinks (like Red Bull) in water bottles. Obviously, we would appreciate not having the children any more amped up this time of year they already are :) but one major issue is they are offering to share it with other kids. If you would make sure they are bringing actual water in their bottles, we will be eternally grateful!
We have a lot going on the next two weeks starting with 5th grade Little Olympics Monday. The weather isn't looking favorable right now; the district will let us know by 7:30 if it's postponed, and I will send a message out as quickly as I know. If you don't hear anything from school, it will proceed as planned. If it is postponed, we will go the following Monday.
Monday is also a GT spotlight day; parents of students who are participate in GT are welcome to stop by anytime to see what your kids have been up to. You can also come anytime Friday morning.
We also have internet safety night Monday- we are partnering with T.G. Smith and Walker, and it will be located at Smith (3600 Falcon Rd.) from 6-7. There will be snacks and activities for the kids so parents can fully engaged in the material presented. This is super important information for all parents!
Tuesday is our PreK celebration in the cafeteria at 1:30; Thursday, we have Senior Walk at 1:30 to honor high school seniors who attended Westwood. We have our last skate night Thursday evening from 6-8. Friday, our 2nd graders will head to the Amazeum, and our 3rd-5th graders are having a superhero celebration to celebrate all their hard work on ACT Aspire.
All week, we will have a book fair from Once Upon a Time bookstore- all books are only $1! This is a great opportunity to stock up to have books for your students to read over the summer!
Whew- we are going strong till the end!
Have a great week!

Can each class spell Westwood?
When students are late, they miss free breakfast (we always try to ask if they still need breakfast, but sometimes when it's busy in the office, it's hard to make sure). Also, every grade does some reading instruction first thing in the morning, so kids who aren't here on time miss that as well. Many students have a hard time coming in being ready to learn when they are upset or thrown off from being late. Please help us help our Wolves get off to the best start possible each day!
Car rider help...
We appreciate all of you who follow procedures and rules set in place to keep everyone safe and make our car line run smoothly. Thank you!
How do I receive information from Westwood?
PHONE CALLS: We also send out phone calls through an automated system; you will receive these calls if your phone number is correct in Registration Gateway. If your number changes, you can update the information in Registration Gateway, or call the office to update.
SOCIAL MEDIA/WEBSITE: The weekly parent update and other announcements/stories are also posted on our school's Facebook page and website. We are working on activating our school's Instagram account also- we'll let you know when that's up and running.
PAPER NOTES: We also send out paper notes at times; most of these will be sent in folders that come home every Tuesday. Every now and then, we need to send information on other days, so it's a great practice to check the backpacks each afternoon/evening.
We don't want you to miss any information, so we put things out in lots of ways!
Does your child want to use a device at school?
