Paul Cézanne Inspired Still Life
1st Grade
Paul Cézanne
Cézanne was born in Aix-en- Provence, France in 1839. At the age of ten Cézanne went to boarding school and started to study drawing with Joseph Gilbert who was a Spanish monk. Cézanne went onto study art in college as well as law and ultimately decided to pursue a career in art against his families wishes. He became well known for his post impressionist style still life work and landscapes.
Still Life Project
To begin this project the first grade students learned about Cézanne's work and observed the different shapes he used to help him draw. They also noticed how shapes overlapped to show what was in front and in back. When they were drawing their own still life they worked on using scale to help them draw their fruit in the right place.
