Principal's Corner
February 10th - February 14th
We had a great time at the dance this past Friday. Thanks for coming out and having a good time! As a treat this week, we do have Shave Ice & Hot Cocoa for sale at lunches on Friday. Our wonderful PTSA hosts our friends at Kona Ice once a month. Prices vary from $2 - $5 and sales go toward our PTSA.
After a full week of our lunch-time challenge for being respectful, keeping noise at a reasonable level, and picking up after lunch, our 8th graders are killing it! Keep it up...7th and 6th grade are right on your tails...
As we head into Valentine's Day week, please "show some love" to your student's teachers. They show up day-in and day-out to provide an awesome classroom experience for your child as we prepare them to be critical thinkers, respectful communicators, and people who persevere in spite of the adversity they face. Send an email, give a gift card, or swing by and thank them face-to-face.
There is a community meeting this Monday evening in the library at Grants Pass High School at 6 p.m. District 7 will be recipients of roughly $4.5 million, and we need your input on how to best spend it! We also have a Board Meeting at the district office Tuesday evening from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Come on out and be a part of the conversations!
Have a great week, South!
Grace and Peace,
Mr. Sale

Cold and Flu season is well under way, and it is important that we work together to keep our children healthy. Viruses spread easily among children. You can help prevent the spread of illness and flu or help your child get better if he/she does get sick by following a few simple steps:
- You and your child could benefit from getting a flu shot
- Remind your child to cover his/her nose and mouth with a tissue when sneezing or coughing and dispose of the tissue immediately
- Wash hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds
- Disinfect frequently-touched surfaces and shared items at least once a day
- Ensure that bathrooms are stocked with soap, hand towels and tissues
- Teach your child not to touch his/her mouth, nose and eyes
- If your child is sick and has a fever, keep him/her at home to prevent the spread of illness to others (including staying home until fever free without the use of medication)
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people
Common symptoms of flu include: high fever, severe headache, muscle and body aches, exhaustion, and dry cough. Additionally, children often exhibit other flu symptoms that are rare in adults, such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. If your child develops symptoms and you are concerned that they might have the flu, call your doctor early, especially if they have a chronic disease (eg.asthma). The physician may prescribe an antiviral medication, which can help lessen the duration of the virus and reduce the risk of complications, such as pneumonia. To be effective, antiviral medication should be taken within 12-48 hours after flu symptoms begin.
