Think Tank in Third
Weekly Update- February 24, 2017
Week at a Glance
Reading/Social Studies- We read a biography about Jackie Robinson and reflected on a quote from his coach saying "I'm looking for a baseball player with guts enough to not fight back."
Math- We continued with multiplication and have now charted all multiples 1-10! Yahoo!!! Students did a great job making connections and finding patterns.
Genius Hour- We started a new Genius Hour project and challenged students to test or create something along with investigating. We are excited to get started and see what students come up with.

MAP Testing
- Reading MAP test will take place on Weds. March, 15th.
- Math MAP test will take place on Mon. March 20th.
If you'd like your child to get some extra practice for reading before the test, MobyMax is a great place to practice. Your child will go to www.mobymax.com/oh2407 and sign in. Their username will be the same as their google log in, and their password is eagles3! .
***The "informational text" section will be a really great way for students to practice for this, and other standardized tests. ***
Spread the Word
March 1st is Spread the Word to End the Word day. During this week, we will be talking with students about the dehumanizing and hurtful effects of the “R-word.” Part of raising awareness is helping students put a face to the issue and recognize the commonalities we share with people with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Please visit www.r-word.org for more detailed information.
With this goal in mind, as part of our Spread the Word to End the Word presentation, we would like to create a slideshow of students with the people that they love who have intellectual or developmental disabilities. For the slideshow, we would like to display photographs of students with their loved one along with a note telling something special about that person, outside of his or her disability. For example, “Amelia loves playing soccer,” or “Amelia has an amazing ability to light up a room with her smile!”
If your student has a friend or family member with an intellectual or developmental disability, we would be honored for you to participate by sending in a photograph (hard copy or electronic) along with the following information to your child’s homeroom teacher:
· Names of those pictured
· Relationship of loved one to the student
· A sentence telling something special about this person
We would like to have all pictures in by next Friday, February 24 so we have time to put together the slideshow. Thanks in advance for your participation as we Spread the Word to End the Word!
Regards,
Your SLC-C Teaching Team
