How It Started

  1. The war started on June 25,1950 after 75,000 N. Korean soldiers crossed over the 38th parallel in an attempt to impose communism on South Korea.

North Korean Name

NKPA which means North Korean people army.

South Korean Name

ROK which means Republic Of Korea.


During the war, south Korea was supported by the U.S., Britain and the United Nations. North Korea was supported by the Soviet Union (Russia).

The Korean war was never more than a''police action''because president Truman never asked congress for a formal declaration of war

How the U.S got involved

President harry s. Truman ordered U.S military forces based in japan to launch naval air strikes on north Korea.And that got them onto to the side of south Korea.


The Korean War was relatively short but exceptionally bloody. Nearly 5 million people died. More than half of these about 10 % of Korea’s prewar population were civilians. This much of civilian casualties was higher than World War II’s and Vietnam’s. Almost 40,000 Americans died in the war in Korea, and more than 100,000 were wounded.
