DPM Newsletter - 4.21.23
Friday, April 21, 2023
Dear DPM Families,
As our IAR/ISA testing window comes to a close, we wanted to acknowledge the community wide effort that went into making the assessments so successful this year. The contributions included:
- There was an overwhelming emphasis on the importance of taking these tests seriously from every member of the District and from our families. The common message that these standardized tests are evidence of what our students are capable of and inform decisions around teaching and learning was heard by all, including our students.
- The students felt the support and encouragement of the DPM community. We held an IAR Pep Rally before the testing week and read inspirational messages over the announcements each morning to make sure the students knew that we believed in their abilities.
- After all of that, the students showed consistently up and tried their best. Those testing days are challenging and take a lot of stamina to get through, but that did not prevent them from attending each day ready to go. At the end of the testing window, we will have over 95% participation at Deer Path which is a marked improvement over years past.
While we will not receive the achievement data back from the state until after the school year is over, it is a huge celebration for how all members of the Deer Path community came together and set our students up for success. These tests are paramount to our overall school rating by the state and they provide us critical information to improve curriculum and instruction districtwide. We want to thank everyone who contributed to make it happen!
Sincerely,
Megan Eigenrauch, 5/6 Principal
Sam Paulsen, 7/8 Principal

DPM and District 67 News
Parent Input Form
This is the time of year in which we begin making decisions about class placement for next year. When creating classes, many things are taken into consideration, including the individual learning styles and personalities of each student. We strive to have a well-balanced, academically heterogeneous group of students with a full range of learner abilities in every classroom. If you would like to share information about some unique aspect of your child's learning style and/or any specific academic and/or social concerns that should be considered, please respond to this Google Form by Friday, May 12. Please note that specific teacher requests will not be considered. Thank you for trusting our professional judgment as we work to create a wonderful learning experience for each and every student here at Deer Path.
Spring MAP Testing
District 67 students in grades 2-8 will take the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) during April 24-May 5. MAP is a Common Core-aligned, adaptive, computer-based assessment. This nationally normed assessment is designed to measure growth over time in the areas of reading and math. The district utilizes the achievement and growth data from MAP to inform instructional planning for individuals and groups of students; and measure growth from year-to-year.
Scooters and Helmets
School Resource Officer Maj is wishing to remind our students to travel safely when riding your bike and scooter to and from school. Students are encouraged to wear a helmet, remain on the sidewalk, cross the roadway at designated crosswalks only, and monitor speed. Safety is our number one priority.
AM Drop Off Reminder - In front of building only
During morning arrival, please remember to drop off students at their respective front entrance only via the driveway along the northside of the building. Please avoid the back of the building to avoid our school buses and the construction crew in the back fields.

Electric-Powered Scooter Safety Tips
With the weather warming, there has been an increase in electric-powered scooters around Lake Forest. While e-scooters are a fun way to travel, they can be dangerous. The Lake Forest Police Department has a few reminders for parents, guardians, and students about how to ride an e-scooter safely:
- Wear a helmet.
- Test the brakes. Make sure you know how to use the brakes and how long it takes to stop the e-scooter so you’re prepared for an emergency stop.
- Alert others and be seen. E-scooters are small, quick, and silent, making it difficult for others to spot you, especially in parking lots and structures. Expect vehicles and pedestrians to not see you; slow down, and plan ahead of time.
- Follow traffic rules. Please stop at stop signs and watch for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
- Ride solo. Only one person per e-scooter; additional riders can increase the risk and severity of collisions.
Find more safety tips from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
